Conscious Abundance Workshop (CAW)
Your Path to Prosperity. The Fun Way.
Here's a desire that many of my readers have shared:
I'd love to experience a life of plenty, where all of my needs are easily satisfied. Then I could focus my energy on learning, growing, exploring, contributing, and enjoying life — instead of having to be mindful of every little expense.
I love the idea of abundance, and I've tried to shift in that direction, but I have to admit I'm not there yet. I'm not even sure what I need to change. Do I need better ideas, more motivation, more action, more surrender, or more work on my beliefs? How can I make faster progress?
The idea of abundance is attractive. Imagine spending your time experiencing and enjoying your desires instead of just fantasizing about them. If you want to travel to different countries, you can do it. If you want a vibrant social life with wonderful friends, you can have it. If you want to enrich your life with immersive projects, compelling hobbies, and growth experiences, you can make it so — if you're in a state of abundance.
Abundance is your ability to create, explore, and experience your desires. If you're able to do this consistently, I'd say you're in a state of abundance.
Note that abundance may include financial wealth if that's part of your desires, but it's also possible that many of your desires will come to you without needing to spend money.
This probably sounds like a nice way to live, but if you're not already experiencing abundance, how do you shift into that state of being?
What if you don't have the right idea or plan? How do you come up with good ideas that will work for you?
What if you feel constrained by doubts or limiting beliefs? How can you work around something that's been programmed into you?
What if you've been feeling stuck for years? How do you push yourself to go beyond what's already comfortable? How can you feel fulfilled with what you have and also attract more? Don’t you need to be dissatisfied with what you have in order to feel motivated to go for more?
These are tricky issues to resolve, and many people have multiple, overlapping issues to deal with. If you’ve worked on this challenge for any length of time, you’ve probably had to accept that it’s harder than it looks.
Despite all of these challenges, we know that it’s possible to make this transition because so many people have already done it, including me. But I want you to accept that it’s not necessarily easy.
From Wanting to Having
In my 20s I struggled for several years with too much debt and not enough income to cover my expenses. Creditors and collection agencies called me every day to ask, "So when can you make a payment?” It was a frustrating and stressful time. I missed out on opportunities because I didn't have the resources to pursue them.
During those difficult years, it felt like some counter-force was working against me. My best ideas kept backfiring. Whenever I tried to make money, I only sank deeper into debt. Chasing abundance was like chasing a rainbow. I was always wanting but not having.
Eventually I was kicked out of my apartment because I fell behind on the rent. A few months later, I filed for bankruptcy. I was 28 years old.
Have you experienced any similar patterns in your life, whereby it felt like some counter-force was sabotaging your efforts to create a more abundant life?
Going bankrupt was a humbling experience, but it was also a chance to start fresh. I resolved not to repeat the stressful patterns of the previous five years. I still believed it was possible to shift from scarcity to abundance because so many other people had done it. I just had to find a way to make it work for me.
I figured I must be missing something. Maybe there were deeper truths about abundance that I didn’t understand yet. I did my best to adopt a flexible mindset. I began testing new ideas, many of which seemed counter-intuitive. Interestingly, those counter-intuitive ideas gave me the biggest breakthroughs.
In less than a year after going bankrupt, I was back on my feet, earning more money than I’d earned before. My credit was fully recovered within two years. Pretty soon I was earning hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. In fact, every year since my bankruptcy has been financially abundant.
My social life improved tremendously as well. I made new friends around the world, especially friends who share my enthusiasm for personal growth.
I see 1999 as the year of my abundance tipping point because that’s when I finally flipped from scarcity to abundance, first in my mindset and then in my results.
Reaching that tipping point was a serious challenge. I struggled a lot to get there and made a lot of mistakes. But when I finally locked into the vibe of abundance, it’s been pretty easy to maintain it.
I think the main reason that this transition can be so difficult is because some of the shifts you need to make are counter-intuitive. I only figured this out by testing ideas that I didn’t expect would work. For instance, I started doing a lot of volunteering, even as I was going bankrupt. How could doing extra work for zero pay possibly help? And yet it did help — tremendously. If you can’t see why, then you’re probably stuck with the same assumptions I had back then.
The solutions are not where you’d expect to find them. Even if you read a lot of books about wealth-building and abundance, you may not discover the key ingredient that will work for you. I read dozens of "how to" books on wealth and abundance in my 20s, but those ideas fell flat when I tried them. I didn’t find my solutions in a bookstore.
If you’ve been working on the abundance challenge for a while, I encourage you to relax your assumptions about abundance and seek to be more open-minded, so you can try some ideas that will at first impression seem like they won’t work. And yet they do work.
When we experience financial pressure, we have a tendency to keep falling back on approaches that don’t actually work. We retreat to the familiar because it’s comforting. But we know deep down that the real solutions won’t be found in that comfort space.
You don’t have to solve every issue perfectly to experience abundance. Many people live richly abundant lives, and they still have some limiting beliefs, mixed feelings about money, questions about their worthiness, and so on. They didn’t succeed by wiping their memories and magically reprogramming themselves. They just had to make the right key shifts to reach the tipping point.
The Conscious Abundance Workshop
The Conscious Abundance Workshop is intended to help you shift from scarcity to abundance — to reach your own personal tipping point.
This tipping point can be described as the release of neediness. Your obsessive wanting dissolves, and you transition to a phase of having.
When you’re in scarcity, so much of your energy is tied up in wanting and needing. When you flip to abundance, your energy shifts to experiencing, appreciating, creating, and enjoying.
The lure of abundance is simple, isn’t it? Having is better than wanting. We all know this. The challenge is how to graduate from the wanting phase and progress to the having phase.
You don’t have to figure this out all by yourself. It took me years to reach my own tipping point, and I had other people helping me along the way. That support made a real difference. In fact, one of my key shifts from 1999 was to stop treating this as a solo challenge and to approach it as a social one. It’s no coincidence that I started writing articles that same year, which brought a lot of new connections into my life.
This workshop is an opportunity for you to transform your solo challenge into a social one as well — with lots of support, empathy, and encouragement. I’ve seen people go through some astonishing shifts when they immerse themselves in an environment of like-minded people.
It may surprise you that when you finally flip to abundance, it will feel totally normal to you after a while. It won’t seem like such a big deal. Reaching the point where abundance starts to feel normal and natural — even before it's showing up in your reality — is part of the challenge.
Even before the workshop, start imagining what it will feel like to have plenty of resources to explore all of your interests, hobbies, and projects. Invite this to become your new reality. Let it begin to feel normal and natural for you.
Let's Help You Reach Your Abundance Tipping Point
My goal is to help you reach your abundance tipping point. I want to give you an immersive taste of what abundance feels like, so that when you go home afterwards, you’ll remember that vibe and how to create it.
I expect that some people will reach this point during the workshop itself, while for others it will come a bit later, once they’ve had time to process the experience and test some of the ideas.
Think of this tipping point like achieving basic skill in another language, whereby you can express any thought, and you can understand native speakers. Once you reach this point, you’ve gained the key benefits of knowing the language. You can pause there, or you can continue progressing towards full fluency and beyond.
Of course your journey doesn’t end after you flip from scarcity to abundance — there’s still plenty of learning and growth to explore on the abundance side. The primary goal of this workshop is to help you reach that tipping point, whether this happens during the event or sometime afterwards. The intention is for you to move beyond neediness, so you feel satisfied with your life and optimistic about your future.
Although the main goal of this workshop is to help you reach your abundance tipping point, we'll also spend some time covering the post-abundance phase. This will help make it more real for you.
When you're living in your abundance phase, you’ll have more growth lessons to learn, but the lessons will be of a different type. You'll get to explore having instead of wanting. When your desires start showing up with greater ease, what will you choose to create, explore, and experience?
You’ll probably find that some of your fantasies about abundance don’t actually excite you when you have the chance to make them real. That’s because many of our fantasies are programmed into us by society and media. So part of this post-abundance phase involves learning to distinguish your real desires from the socially conditioned ones.
Let me clarify again that we’re not just talking about financial abundance here. Having plentiful resources is one aspect of abundance, but true abundance includes your non-financial desires as well, such as your social desires, lifestyle desires, and personal goals. While the general approach is the same across the board, flipping to abundance in one area doesn't automatically flip you in all areas. Consequently, we'll cover special strategies to create abundance in each aspect of life that's important to you.
For me the biggest challenge was achieving financial abundance. After that I spent years exploring social, relationship, intimacy, and travel abundance. Many of my friends took a different path, like mastering social and travel abundance before pivoting to financial abundance.
What I like about financial abundance is that it enables me to largely ignore money. This fulfills my dream of living in an abundant reality like the one in Star Trek: The Next Generation, where money is irrelevant. Instead of fussing over resources, I can spend my time exploring and expressing more important values.
During the workshop I’d like to help you create your own personal vision of abundance. It’s okay if you want the sports car and other status symbols, but if you’re like me, you’ll probably find that your true vision of abundance is more experiential and less materialistic — more love, more fun, and more growth. The better you understand what your life will realistically be like during your abundance phase, the easier it will be for you to succeed.
