Well, I guess it is because of the perception that sorcery is not allowed in Islam. That's why.

It's hypocritical though, since killing someone for practising herbal medicine is tantamount to black magic in itself! They are doing exactly what they are punishing these people for doing...but they don't see it that way!

It's completely irrational to equate herbal medicine with sorcery.

I wonder if she cast a spell on the people responsible for her death, just before she died.
Most place don't believe in this type of thing. Yet the will kill you for somthing they have no understanding about. Glad I live in a country that at least I think don't take a harsh stance on this type of thing.

Just because she practised herbal medicine, does not mean she was a real sorceress. There are herbal medicine practitioners all over the world, and not all of them believe in magic and spells.

It's an assumption they made that cost her her life.

Same thing happened here, under Christianity:

The Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692

Fear is so powerful a motivator; it will easily trump rationality in whomever it takes root.

And just as Christians burned witches for many reasons - not all to do with witchcraft - so do the Saudi's.

Totally off topic but...

Did you know that when a person is beheaded, they can remain conscious for 2-15 seconds? It depends on how the beheading took place and how the head falls down.

Quote:
I’ll leave you with a letter sent to the Straight Dope from a U.S. Army veteran who had been stationed in Korea, in June 1989. He and his friend were in the back seat of a taxi when the taxi collided with a truck; the veteran was pinned in the wreckage, but his friend had been decapitated. Here is his letter:
“My friend’s head came to rest face up, and (from my angle) upside-down. As I watched, his mouth opened and closed no less than two times. The facial expressions he displayed were first of shock or confusion, followed by terror or grief. I cannot exaggerate and say that he was looking all around, but he did display ocular movement in that his eyes moved from me, to his body, and back to me. He had direct eye contact with me when his eyes took on a hazy, absent expression… and he was dead.”
sorry
