I wanted to share this with all of you because it's so intense... labiaplasty to have a "porn perfect" vulva. Apparently this is the fastest growing cosmetic surgery in the UK. Ironic, given the Western cultural outrage over female genital mutilation in the Middle East and Africa.

I toyed with the idea of surgery for a bit, but never seriously. I got over it along with gaining confidence about my appearance in other ways.
It's kind if crazy that an anatomical feature shared by more than half of women is so underrepresented in the media.

That said, I know 2 women who had a labiaplasty mostly for comfort reasons, and they absolutely love the result - I hear not having your labia minora get painfully stuck in your underwear is a plus!

Yikes. Could a Labia minora get so big that it would be a problem like this? I never heard of that before. Getting stuck in your underwear? You mean, like in the elastic part of the underwear?

What I found to be the weirdest thing about this video...apart from the obvious topic of course, was the fact that the women in it seemed so hesitant to call the vulva a vulva. "Twinkle", "fanny" and other names were preferred?

It's as if they find it an unspeakable name, a dirty word or something that is to be not mentioned for fear of seeming indecent... which I find really strange. Maybe that's just the culture in England?

I know that many men have trouble with the word vulva as well, but I never thought women would become so brainwashed that they would also start seeing it as a dirty word?

I'm stumped.

Yeah... and on the other hand, I never even knew it was possible to have an outie.

I also have no idea how much pubic hair is considered "normal." Even this video featured mostly shaven/waxed vulvas. Actually, come to think of it, I don't even know how much armpit hair is normal for a woman. Or leg hair.

I saw that particular doco some time ago. The Brits are good at making those sorts of films.

It worries me that women just don't see enough of each other's vulvas to know what constitutes *normal*. And normal really just equals varied.

It's a real worry that girls are doing this to themselves though. Pretty messed up. Young people are impressionable, so it's understandable that they would get things so wrong, but still...can't they try thinking for themselves? The urge to please men just drives girls to do the craziest things to themselves.

Maybe it would help if the porn industry didn't promote prepubescant hairless vaginas as being what most men want. I don't think that is even what most men do want, is it?

Do most men really want to have sex with a grown woman who has the bits of a 5 year old? That's just disturbing if it's true.

The elastic on the inside of your leg is really not that far from this area, depending where exactly your vulva is positionned. Your labia only needs to be, what, 6, 8 cm long when extended to get easily caught in it? Judging by the pictures in these documentaries, that's not all that unusual. Most of the time it's quite bunched up, it doesn't dangle 8 cm under your crotch.

That was very interesting. I wonder who decides on licenses being given for such surgeries and which are the safeguards. For example, I would expect national criminal laws to incriminate such acts performed on girls of a very young age as offenses. Also, I would expect psychological advice being offered before such surgeries.

Since when is there a vaginal "norm"? There are sooo many different penises out there. How can there only be a select few types of vaginas that are preferable! I've never had complaints. Regardless of hair/not, the area changes enough during puberty that the claim that "a hairless adult vulva looks just like a child's vulva!" simply isn't true. That's one thing they touch on in the video... teenagers go through puberty, decide they are now "abnormal," and kinda try to turn back the clock (it's a similar argument to some theories proposed about anorexia nervosa, though I don't know how true it is) -- but it's not possible. We'll never look like 5 year olds.

Anyway, I don't think that men who prefer things clean shaven are harboring pedophilic tendencies or anything like that.
