LOL, yeah! I've seen some shrunken heads, in a museum. They're pretty crazy.

Nazis did it in concentration camps on occasion. There's footage of it. Not pretty.

Yep. There's some in the Liverpool Museum. Ran away screaming when I was a teenager, only to run into that mounted seven foot spider crab in a glass case on the wall. I can't thank the British Empire enough for that memory...no really...thanks Queen Victoria...thanks.

Yep. I saw a national geographic episode a week ago showing real tribesman doing the ritual of removing the skull from the flesh and soaking the "facemask" in boiling water to make it shrink, then filling it up with sand to give it form again.

They believed that by doing this, by reducing the size of the head it made them have power over their enemy (which should have been obvious by virtue of the fact that they had his head), and the stitching held curses so that the spirit of the person could not come and seek revenge on them.

People are nutty, and they always have been!

It's definately gruesome!

Yeah, well... By our standards, crazier things have been committed than this. As you said, luci, "people are nutty."

I can relate to your surprise SuperTom. Everybody thought that zombies were just folklore until the early eighties, when they were discovered to really exist (although they weren't really dead, just drugged into a catatonic state, then buried alive and dug up shortly thereafter, and kept on drugs). That blew my mind.

Anyhow, while we're on the subject of head shrinking, here's one of my favorite tv commercials from when I was a kid...

I don't know if I'd call that brave...or just freakin' STOOPID?

Did you know that Spike Milligan requested to be buried in a washing machine?

Stop and take a minute to really contemplate how hard it would be for a mortician to put a body in the throws of rigor mortis into a modern spin washing machine!
