BBC - Earth News - Snake gives 'virgin birth' to extraordinary babies

This is exciting! A female boa constrictor reproduced twice, resulting in 22 offspring (all female) that are genetically unique. These babies are the first observed of their kind. She was housed with 4 male snakes, but none of the offspring are genetically related to the males.

Miraculous evolution.

What a dreamy thing to wonder. It would be quite interesting, to just be able to Will yourself into pregnancy. Imagine BOTH men and women being able to impregnate themselves...just whenever

Well I remember hearing this story on a Gregg Braden lecture... Walking Between Worlds: The Science of Compassion that was it. He told a story of a Native American tribe, they had a winter and a summer camping area at different hunting grounds and an avalanche trapped the women and children so the men could not return to them until the spring had melted the snow.

While isolated from the men some of the women spontaneously became pregnant! This is a legend, of course...

Can you imagine, though? Like "Oh, crap, my period is late, I haven't had sex with a man in years but I could still be pregnant!" LMAO

I just thought of this lady in a jail cell that became pregent . none to the guards said it was there fault . I have heard that some reptiles females can repuduce with out a male . Lets say they end up alone on a island . desert rat

There is a medical term for a woman becoming pregant without a sperm cell . The egg cell does something funny , like 1 in a billon odds . desert rat
