Too fat to fight

BBC News - US youngsters are too fat to fight, warn generals
Rising rates of obesity among young Americans could undermine the future of the US military, two retired generals have warned.

Chinese youth accused of not being fighting fit | Reuters
China must urgently address the physical fitness of the nation's youth or run the risk of raising a generation incapable of fighting the Japanese in a future war, the head of the country's top sports university said Thursday.

It seems that fast food restaurants are becoming either a threat to national security, or the creators of future world peace where everyone is fat.

Drones can be controlled regardless of physical fitness.

Where* I was last year the mess hall was excellent. OK breakfast, excellent lunch, good dinner usually if it wasn't fish (but still decent fish). For lunch we could often choose between a lot of stuff, bread based stuff, sausages, a lot of vegetables, chicken, rice, tortilla chips, salsa, dressings, ketchup etc. could be one combination. Usually desserts on weekends. Often they threw in cakes, cinnamon roles, icecream out of nowhere on lunches or dinners during the weekday. When we had foreign visitors it was often a party of sweet delights with a lot of different cakes, cookies and what have you. Yummy!

Still there were a lot of whiners that would utilize the commercial cafeteria and buy hamburgers or pizzas. Some made that their main source of chow... until their money ran out. Some didn't eat the mess breakfast sometimes, or wouldn't go to dinner, weekend brunch etc. among other things because they couldn't be bothered to walk outside the 6 minute trip it takes etc.

In the field we usually had freeze dried rations where you only have to add water. Cereals or oatmeal for breakfast, chili con carne, lamb mulitagatawny etc, for dinner codfish with dumplings, pasta bolognese etc. Plus instant coffee, chocolate, crackers, cocoa and other bs. It was mostly delicious, but we all got tired of it after a week, and maybe grew to dislike it. But in and of itself it was great IMO, I guess just the liquidity of it or something got tiring. We also had with us water boilers, coffee makers and toast irons on exercises where we used the vehicles. We had a generator with us on the truck, but if we didn't have that some of the vehicles had their own generators with them (EDIT: the armoured personell carriers did). I had a built in with no standard voltage output, but I had a water boiler. The point is -> convienience. I made a lot of cheese sandwiches to utilize the toast irons. That was a great way to get more solid foods...

* Mind you this was not the US military.

Ignoring the cost and practicality, it would be cool for drones and robots to take over more front line duties. In my experience 'stoormtroopers" are trained to be mindless anyway...

Sounds like you ate perty good. I was just having a bit of fun of army food. I was going to join the US Air Force after high school , but my mom talked me out . I only ate one meal on a ROTC field trip . They have thoes drone planes , but the pilot eats from miles away . desert rat

Yeah, and the drone pilots live in Las Vegas too while operating their drones in Afganistan.

When I was in the army, I have army buddies who wanted to lose weight. They did make the commitment to run every night. But when they finished their, they give in to their night hunger by eating bread spread with Nutella or eating Long John Silver.

If I ever wanted to lose weight in the army, I just ate food in the army canteen. I actually developed a phobia of junk food because I had too much of it in the army.

Another thing, why is the Chinese government are still so adamant on fueling anti-Japanese sentiment among Chinese? WW2 is over and Japan has already provided billions of aid to China to compensate to that. Of course, the Chinese government did a good job of covering that up too.

But the money did not reach the victims of the war. The anti-japanese sentiment because of Nanking rape, is just like the feeling of Americans against Taliban after 9/11. No money can pay for it.

I would say you are making light of the Rape of Nanjing. Nanking Massacre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Japanese soldiers tied the men to trees and poles and had "Practice Killing" drills where they stabbed them with their bayonets and disembowel them. The Chinese victims then died several agonizing hours later, usually moaning, wailing and crying out in pain... all while the Japanese soldiers laughed at them and urinated on them.

If that is not a horrible enough way to die, the Chinese women had it far worse... so bad were the torturous murderous atrocities against them that I too angry to post about them now.

Remember the Bataan Death March where the Japanese forced American POW's to march for a few days to a prison camp with no food or water in searing tropical heat and they shot and stabbed to death all who faltered?

And if anyone is shocked by this, they should know that very similar atrocities were perpetrated against the Cherokee Indians just prior and during the "Trail of Tears" forced death march in 1831.

Ecclesiastes 1:9 (New International Version)

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.

Next thing you know, army advertisement:

"Join the army, lose your tummy."

I was just thinking of the Cold War one (actual):
"Join the army, kill a commie for mommy."

Or...

Join the Navy and catch exotic STD's in Ports of Call all over the world! Woot! :p

Or...

Join the Marines, because no one who makes it through *real* bootcamp at Paris Island is fat on graduation day! The Crucible, a great way to loose 10 - 15 pounds in three days! United States Marine Corps Recruit Training - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fat Camp before Boot Camp! Trust me a Drill SGT barking at you will get you moving and they control what you get and how much at the "chow hall". This could lead to an even better Military. Better nutrition education and lots of extra time to teach them the CODE OF CONDUCT and ETHICS. I know there are only a few who make the rest look bad but why not use this extra training time to identify and weed out more of the bad eggs?
