Yes i also think what is needed is some first hand information as we could be wrong about scientology.....It is common for people to fear what they cant control and dismiss what they dont understand! Just a thought!

my husband joined for a short period many years back.

scientology life is not glamorous...and he found it a little scarey.

celebrity and big money make the glamour.

and as i said, they found him 25 yrears later tracking him from an old new york number to his stint in california back to florida today...so they must keep very intensive files....

I don't know about other Scientology members, but it does seem like celebrity has its own special brand of madness. I read a book on Charles Manson recently, and during the years before the murders he was quite "in the scene."

He was not just a friend of Brian Wilson's—he was a known figure to those in the music and movie industry. One of his groupies was Angela Lansbury's daughter. But of course those in the public eye disassociated any knowledge of him after the murders.

i agree....there are different sets of rules for celebrity types...i don't the average person should gauge anything in their lives by them or use them as role models....

I think that a lot of people joining Scientology do so for the same reasons many people are here: personal growth. I'm sure it is helpful for some people, gets them inspired, maybe keeps them focused on development and self-awareness. If Scientology works for them, then I wish them all the best with it.

My problems with Scientology come from the info out there about L. Ron Hubbard. Legitimate third party sources (neither Church related nor ex-Church "enemies") paint a picture of a bright, charismatic, paranoid, controlling, incredibly manipulative man, a true "user" of others. Much of his behavior seems not only selfish, but bordering on truly evil, and that's not a word I use often.

He may have had some good ideas or techniques, perhaps self-discovered, perhaps adapted from elsewhere, but I want nothing to do with him or his work.
