Default From animals backs to the atmosphere?

From Steve's Article Climate Change I didn't understand how more dangerous gases are emitted even than carbon dioxide in farm animal industry.

Here's the quote:

Quote:
Carbon dioxide (CO2) isn’t the only greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. Two others are methane and nitrous oxide. Methane is 20 times more powerful than CO2 at trapping atmospheric heat, and nitrous oxide is 300 times more powerful than CO2. EPA reports show that animal agriculture is the #1 source of methane, and the United Nations reports that it’s responsible for 65% of the world’s nitrous oxide emissions.
Is methane coming from animals backs or what? Nitrous oxide obviously isn't but though. I'm not really expecting it to be so, but I'm just giving an example.

Thank you for your answers in advance!

Well when you add up all the 20 billion livestock, and all the resources it requires to create meat, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm not exactly sure about the differences in the gases though, or where exactly they come from.

Methane is 26 times more powerful than carbon dioxide.
By eating cow meat, you contribute, not only to the destruction of trees to have some room for cows, but also cows produce methane as "output" of their digestive system.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was wondering about.

And I forgot to add that transporting, processing and cooking the meat, adds extra CO2 emissions.

I might suggest you to watch BBC documentary "Are we changing planet Earth?" as well as "Six degrees could change the world" by National Geographic.

The sad fact is that we have SO many livestock that their farts are destroying the air.
