Default Has anyone ever purchased one of those Earth4Energy products

Or something similar to that affect, you get so many mixed reviews, you cannot who is telling the truth...

What I do not get is how can natural energy be more expensive?

What were the ancient Egyptians doing, that we cant do?

Personally I think it is all about money, but I would really like to provide energy to my household without relying on the government...

Offhand, I would say that it is a scam.

If by 'natural' energy, you mean renewable energy, it is because you are buying a self-contained power system that doesn't require fossil fuel inputs. You can run your house off of a few solar panels and some deep-cycle batteries ($1,000.00+-), if you reduce your electrical load enough. Magazines such as Home Power can provide you with the know-how.

If you are talking about the pyramids, they were better engineers than we are today. As far as chemical batteries go, we can make those as well. Look up potato or lemon batteries and you will find plenty of examples. Most are low power, low amperage, and are useless for powering a house. Somebody did power a Web Server with potatoes, but as you can see, it wasn't very big...

Never heard of them until just now. It's not really rocket science to create homemade wind turbines or a remedial solar energy collector so I wouldn't call it a scam, per se.

Maybe the guy's instructions aren't up to par for the amount of money he charges. Or maybe plain idiots are trying and failing to actually follow his material. Could be many things.

They are all over the web and have advertisements on CNN's website. From the Consumer WebWatch Blog:
Quote:
Finally, we checked out the “affiliates” link at the bottom of the page, and have a feeling this is what this site is all about: getting cash-hungry consumers to create their own sites promoting Earth4Energy for a promise of 75% of each manual sold. The page also features a dozen variations on the Earth4Energy site ready for downloading.
You can probably buy Chinese-made solar panels for less than it costs to assemble one out of parts.

But, regardless of whether it's an MLM, does the manual work or does the manual suck? That is what constitutes a "scam" in my book. If the manual is good, then it's not a scam even if there is an associated aspect of MLM in the business model.

This may or may not be true but for some people, supporting a communist nation's economy by buying their goods is like being one yourself. For some people the fun is in creating your own stuff.

It still comes down to whether the info in the manual is cogent and accurate, or not.

Enslaving other cultures by the millions to provide mass manual labor at no cost.

Revering their leader as a god.

Killing those who refuse to follow the leader.

The latest archeological data has actually shown that it's unlikely that the builders of Egypt were actually slave labor. More like blue collar workers we have today.

But I digress....

More than likely the bulk parts that you would buy to 'roll your own' are made in China as well.

True. I would rather make a Stickley style Craftsman desk than buy a disposable knock together piece of junk from Ikea. The resulting desk would be a functional work of art. However, I have better things to do than solder a series of solar cells into an array, just so I could say that I made it myself. There is probably a robot in Indonesia that can do it far better and more efficiently than I ever could.

I have no idea. The 'testimonials' are probably all made up by people involved in the MLM. Somebody would have to buy the book and do an objective review. Although of course, somebody publishing a negative review would probably wind up hip-deep in lawyers. After all, for the Earth4Energy people, it is all about money...
