The best news sources are the private newsletters, based on a subscription format from the freelance analysts and journalists, they don't have any editors or censorship whatsoever. The second there are paid advertisements the truth disappears into the abyss. The private newsletters from the most skilled analysts are usually several hundred dollars a year though, sometimes even thousands for some of them. But hey you get what you pay for blehhhh . If you want the best paying 10-20 bucks a month from the mainstream papers ain't gonna cut it really.

That's true!

Well, the reason why they're cheaper is because of advertising revenues! Which goes back to your point about getting what you pay for. Someone has to pay for the costs—better you than General Motors, right?

Default unbiased?

Maybe there is no unbiased news, since many truths are relative, so I go for the most intelligent, articulate news I can find.

Did I miss it or hasn't anyone mentioned /. yet?
It's a place where people submit summaries of stories they find all around the web. Lots of variety and interesting stuff. I think the summaries are quite objective, but ofcourse they link to the articles which may be more or less subjective.

Slashdot - News for nerds, stuff that matters

That's unrealistic because writers do have ideas and those ideas are part of what makes them worth reading.
Otherwise you can go straight to the statistical yearbook with is full of "pure" facts but doesn't contain many ideas.
Statistical yearbook's only contain facts that someone thought were worthy of putting in there, and leaves out facts they think they were worthy, and also facts that they didn't know existed. But you already knew that

Glad this is getting some good response. FYI: It's kind of tricky to get to the newest news articles, which gives the [incorrect] impression that the site is not updated regularly. If you click on the "news" tab you have the option of sorting all news articles by date posted, starting with the newest.
