Population and selection effects of the Holocaust?

During the Holocaust, nearly 80% of the Jewish people in Europe were killed, and nearly half of the total world Jewish population at that time, or 6 million, the equivalent of the entire population of current day Israel.

What selective effects did this have on the population?

There were almost ten years between the time that Hitler took power and and the Holocaust. During that time, he had instituted measures against Jewish people, but they were still free to leave for many years before the Holocaust.

Many academics, intellectuals, and forward thinkers fled Europe long before the war officially started.

Did this have a positive selective effect for the population as a whole? (As in selecting for these positive traits, obviously the war as a whole was a negative thing for Jews and humanity as a whole.)


Many Jewish people in the world currently are exceptionally intelligent, contributive, and powerful. This may be due in part to genes and culture, but did this selective force of the war also contribute in any way to the predominance of these traits?
