I personally try to spend 100% of my income ethically, rather than 10%.

You mean tithe as in the biblical sense? I donate to two charities monthly but not 10%. I would contribute more if it were possible though. However I do consider the fact that I help support my family as well to be equally important.

Seva is one charity I do some work with here. Here is a rundown of their gift programs. It feels pretty amazing to donate, knowing that someone will actually have their sight restored and be able to see again because of only $50.

Did you know the life expectancy for someone who becomes blind in India is only 2 years?

Thanks for the link, I've saved it. The 2 year life expectancy due to blindness is amazingly sad.

My two are Remote Area Medical and UNICEF's Work :: U.S. Fund for UNICEF - UNICEF USA.

Default Elrond I don't trust

the Government to get the money to the right people. Plain and simple!! Yes there are people in need, and I help when I can. But you can't force people by taxing them even more, it does not work. This is what going to happen with high taxes, and it is happening all ready. Layoffs lots of layoffs high taxes take away profits, which makes it harder to hire. Also products will go up to cover the cost of higher taxes. How is that going to help anybody. If people keep getting money from the Government, that they didn't earn how are they going to learn to better their life's. Education!! not higher taxes is the way out. Education not socialism!! Higher taxes will hurt this country big time Do you really trust your Government to help?? There is a big difference between charity and socialism

Thumbs up See, I

thought so coollikeme. You've actually got a well thought-out position on the matter. I only had to satirize your previous OP a wee bit for you to actually produce something that isn't a rant on the subject. *Thumbs up*

And P.S. I trust my government more than I trust yours.

Yes, 10% of every dollar earned, before taxes. Since I am fully supported by the universe there is no problem with this.

The discussion of proper tax rates is a great one to have, but this justification has never rung true to me.

The main reason is that I've sat in corporate board rooms when they realize that they've got a surfeit of cash that was unexpected, but that looks permanent. The company rarely looked to expansion. They usually didn't discuss lowering the price of products. The most common topics were bonuses and raises for executives, the legality of such bonuses and raises, and whether a dividend would be required to shareholders. Granted, these were usually small corporations with low debt in competitive markets, so it may be different for other companies. My hunch, though, is that the first order of business is usually rewarding those in the room.
