Default Easy way to fix the USA

Drill for our own oil, while we sell our reserves. California can drill their way out of debt very quickly. I can't even believe that California is begging for money. They have great resources right on their shores ready to go. Sell our oil to Europe and it will help both of us in many ways. Drilling tips: HowStuffWorks "How Oil Drilling Works" Why Not Drill for Oil in ANWR ? Why Not Drill for Oil in ANWR ? on Technorati. Drill Baby Drill!!! It is going to happen so we might as well start drilling now!! Its also better than the plan we have now.

I can't even stop my hair from standing up, so I think I'll have to wait a bit before I do the fixing USA thing. Just give me a second...

Neat idea. But we have our own oil here in the UK and we seem to be in very nearly as much economic trouble as the US. Perhaps it isn't a resources problem?

Yes, keep on running on dark fuel, rather than turn to the light.

We have had this issue discussed elsewhere. There is just not enough oil in ANWR to see any significant increase in supply. It is not an "easy" answer - oil prices have fallen so greatly in the last 6 months that OPEC has cut production and this changes the equation drastically. The big problem now is the gutting of what is left of the US economy and the mortgaging of the future to protect the interests of a few.

From Wikipedia:
In 1998, the USGS estimated that between 5.7 and 16.0 billion barrels (2.54×109 m3) of technically recoverable crude oil and natural gas liquids are in the coastal plain area of ANWR, with a mean estimate of 10.4 billion barrels (1.65×109 m3), of which 7.7 billion barrels (1.22×109 m3) lie within the Federal portion of the ANWR 1002 Area.[16] In comparison, the estimated volume of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil in the rest of the United States is about 120 billion barrels (1.9×1010 m3). [23] The ANWR and undiscovered estimates are categorized as prospective resources and therefore, not proved.

The total production from ANWR would be between 0.4 and 1.2 percent of total world oil consumption in 2030.

The oil that is profitable to remove from ANWAR is a drop in the bucket. Obtaining more oil only treats the symptom, not the root problem. American society is very wasteful, including how we like to waste oil/gasoline.

Why invest $$$ in drilling equipment when the same amount of money builds you CLEAN energy such as wind? Not too far from me, just off the Delaware shore, is going to be one of the first off-shore wind farms.

Also invest some of that money in conservation efforts. It can be as easy as government sponsored research or prize money for a much more efficient battery for hybrid or electric cars.

And there is alot you and I can do about the energy problem. I finally needed a new car, so I got rid of my 18-20mpg Firebird and bought a 32-38mpg Toyota Yaris. I've driven from eastern Maryland to middle of Ohio on one small tank of gas! If commuters could make their next car something in the 30+ mpg range and we junk 99% of these SUVs, imagine the savings!

Default There is more oil to drill..

than just in Anwar. Off the shore's in California there is plenty. You can drill in many places in New Jersey, Florida and many other places. Canada and Mexico drill for oil and seem to have enough. So if they have it, why don't we? USA has oil somewhere in all our lands and waters. So stop saying we don't have enough oil, that is just bull. Oil can pay for a lot of things like health care and social security. I thought that was what most people really want anyway. Alternative energy fits into the equation also, wind energy is good and also solar energy. Leave nothing off the table!!! Its going to happen anyway when a second wave of bad credit comes in the next couple of years. Personal credit is going to hurt the economy next, after massive layoffs. There will be a lot more bad debt when that happens. Drilling is the only way I see for us to get out of this mess. We can drill our way to prosperity. YES WE CAN!!!

How about investing in Geothermal and wind energy?

Canada and Mexico drill for oil and seem to have enough. So if they have it, why don't we?
Do you plan to invade Mexico and Canada?

You have 3% of oil reserves and consume 25% of oil.
If you built solar panels in a region of 100 miles x 100 miles in the Mohave desert, you could easily satisfy electricity needs for the country.

Also, as oil get scarse, Americans would pay more. As US industries rely on oil, they would be less competitive in the world.
