Default Nuclear Energy?

What is your opinion about nuclear energy replacing coal and oil energy? Nuclear has very bad properties (radiation) and very good properties (less pollution). Do you think Nuclear energy is the solution?

As far as my opinion... I think the dangerous of potential radiation leaks is by far dwarfed by the health hazards of pollution caused by gas and oil. I also believe it is important for world relations that the U.S. is not so dependent to other country's energy supplies. I don't think nuclear power is the ultimate answer, but I do believe it is an temporary answer until we get wind, solar, and other alternative methods more mainstream.

Affordable alternative energy is available today but the existing energy companies are afraid of it and therefor lobby against them.

Look at Solucar in Spain's system. This would be great for CA, Az for example.

Nuclear power is cheap (Plutonium prices have remained steady for 20 years!) its clean (no emissions) and nuclear waste can be contained very safely these days.

You also have to remember that there have been less deaths related to nuclear power of any sort than in the combined coal, oil and hydroelectric industry (yes that includes the deaths at Chernobyl).

Finally we are going to run out of coal and oil before we can harness fusion power so its an inevitability.
