Personally I think John McCain is going to have a very difficult time winning due to the unpopularity of George Bush. I can't imagine a scenario in which Bush could go from having the worst approval rating of any modern president to being re-elected. Based on the numbers, it almost seems that the democratic candidate would only have to run on a platform of "I am not George Bush" to be win an election over Bush.

In order for the Democratic party to lose the upcoming election, they would have to screw up big time. Then again, people were saying the same thing in 2004, and look at what happened then. If Hillary Clinton was on the ticket, that would have done it for sure, because there are too many people out there who can't stand her. Of the two major candidates left standing, Barack Obama is the smarter of the two, and the only one with any chance of getting us out of this quagmire that we are in. However, I am not sure if Obama can win the election or not. If there is another terrorist attack on US soil, or if we wind up in yet another war, McCain, the candidate with 'war experience' would definitely have an advantage. Also, there are probably quite a few people out there who just can't see past Obama's differentness. You can put good money on the odds that there will be plenty of 'swift boat' type campaigns against Obama aimed at that electorate. They may not necessarily vote for the other guy, but instead they may just stay home on election day. This election could wind up being only 'true beleivers' on both sides at the polls. A lot of the election will depend upon who the candidates select as a running mate. If the Democrats select Hillary Clinton, then we are back in 'screw up' territory. OTOH, a running mate such as John Edwards, could turn the tide in Obama's favor.

I don't think he'd win a third term. His approval rating is quite abysmal.

No chance in hell he would win again, unless it really is completely rigged. I think he's screwed it up for McCain as well. I doubt we'll see a republican in office for a while, unless Obama screws up worse, but I just can't see that.

Racism is still a big issue, and Obama has proven he's not quite the candidate many of us thought he was. Don't forget that many people vote blindly for one party regardless of who is running and many of the people that could tip the scale are so fed up with the whole process they won't even bother showing up on election day. I don't think McCain will win, but the election will be a lot closer than it should be, even if there is no foul play.

With all that said, I'm voting for Nader. Here's to hoping this becomes a 3 or 4 way presidential race.
