Default Gas Is not expensive.

Heres the way I look at it... beer is still more expensive than gas, no one is complaining about the high cost of beer now are they? They still drink as much as they want to and mess up their lives. I depend on a lot of fossil fuels as a small scale farmer and I just pay the price and deal with it. People need to understand also that when compared to prices in the 80s we are pretty consistent with those prices(adjusted for inflation) Maybe a tad higher now. Sure they will go up...So what? The key is as always to be better at saving money.Personal growth encompasses monetary effectiveness.. My $.04 (adjusted for inflation)

It's unfortunate we Americans feel that we've got a God-given right to live with the kind of luxuries cheap fuel and food provides for us. Half of the things many people would consider necessary are in fact superfluous. They don't even want most of it anyway.

In the news all we hear about is the bad part of this, but I think it will be good for us in the end. It's exactly what a lot of people need to shake them up and make them consider what's really important to them.

Your history misses the interessting events in Germany during that time.

There is no reason (at least you don't provide one) to believe in a sharp decrease in supply in the US.

Default We shouldn't be using gas anymore anyway.

Quickie from Wiki—“An Archimedean point is a hypothetical vantage point from which an observer can objectively perceive the subject of inquiry, with a view of totality. The ideal of "removing oneself" from the object of study so that one can see it in relation to all other things, but remain independent of them, is described by a view from an Archimedean point.”

Does $4 gas signify the beginning of the ending of a civilization of adolescent life styles divorced from the reality principle? Does it presage the beginning of the ending of a self-absorbed and largely fictional pattern of social behavior?

I doubt it but I can dream can’t I?

This morning I listened to NPR interviewing the mayor of Houston Texas speaking about anticipated efforts for completely remodeling the living and cultural standards of the citizens of Houston in anticipation of creating a city where citizens might work, shop, and live within walking distances of shops, supermarkets, and jobs.

Reality seldom challenges salient points of hero-systems largely because the earth has been so bountiful; natural bounty has thus far allowed Americans to live largely in a world of playful fantasy that may be beginning to crumble around a commercial-military hero-system of fantasy.

Socrates was sentenced to death by hemlock because he tried to awaken the youth of Athenian society to this very reality-principle; he died a hero in the eyes of history because he asked the youth to question their own hero-system.

Will $4 gas lead you to question your own commercial-military hero-system?
It's ridiculous to use gas now when we can so easily use other forms of energy. I hope the prices go so high no one can afford it. Maybe then people will get off their butts and convert or buy green vehicles. I cheer with you!!

Default Oil drilling..

its coming, and its about time. Drilling are own oil, while finding alternative energy, is the way to prosperity. There will be plenty of choices for everyone. We can finally depend on ourselves.

It should have come years ago ( The nuke plants and oil drilling ) then we wouldn't have the spike of oil price and price of consumer goods all over the world.

The world economy ( or more precisely the dollar economy ) runs on oil.

In order of amount consumed in 2006 in thousand bbl/d

Petroleum consumption rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

(103bbl/day)
1 United States 20,588

2 China 7,274

3 Japan 5,222
