| Remember, Remember, The 18th of June The day of shame I feel obligated to inform you all that our government intends to wiretap ALL communication and has succeeded in passing a law for it. So you should all be worried if your communications over internet may pass Swedish borders. When this law is implemented it is likely it will be abused.

| It is. But for over a year only the bloggosphere made any noise about it. The old media didn't care at all about this until a few weeks ago. They probably didn't think it was worth much money to inform people until it's too late to stop it. Sadly, the Swedish people are very calm and follow the rules. Unlike the French who goes crazy every time they don't like something. And the government were in a big hurry to pass this law while the people were busy watching sports... fra law - Google Search Also, both our biggest parties are for this law. 19 februari 2006 our previous government decided to put the law on hold because it had drawn too much attention. But people in general don't believe you when you tell them about this law, it's not possible for them to comprehend that Swedish polititians want to implement something worse than what was in east germany.

| What reason does the government give for monitoring everyone? It would seem over reaching in scope to me. I guess that it does eliminate the inconvenient due process of law now that the law will explicitly allow such monitoring. |

| Exactly, they're making a huge overimplementation. They haven't given any credible reasons at all. They've just rambled about some loose foreign threats and crimes and very vague things. They even talked about purely internal crimes that have nothing to do with the international aspect that this law is supposed to address. Sweden is under no threat at all. There's never been any terrorism here because Sweden is such a neutral country internationally. We don't have any big problems with crime at any level. There is no reason for us to have this law, we're probably the last country in the world who'd ever need such a law. It is also a law that goes against our fundamental laws, the laws that protect human rights. We need to reject this law and give Swedish democracy a big overhaul.

This might have something to do with it. There may be some things the government is concerned with? | Well, implementing this law is exactly what the terrorists want. It just shows how weak we are and how vulnerable we are to threats and fear. When they take over we will already have put all the surveillance apparatus in place for them. How nice we are. It's also a completely useless law, the terrorists definitely wont be mailing each other without encryption. Only innocent citizens will be suffering under this law. Another law is on the way. In Sweden we have a DNA register of those born since 1975 that is intended for medical research. Now the government want to make this data available to the police. Democracy is going downhill fast.
