Default Bush in London

Some interesting reactions to President Bush on his visit to the UK over the last couple of days. Normally a US president coming over here is quite a big thing but this time it has seemed very different.

There has been the usual anti-war protests, about 2500 demonstrators and they refused to allow them to march down Whitehall which is very unusual, but a lot of the press have actually pointed out the disruption caused by a presidential visit. Huge parts of central London closed off, chaos at Heathrow, grumbling at Windsor Castle being closed.

Most of the commentarys in the papers have been quite scathing only the Daily Telegraph being remotely conciliatory.

On reflection, if this European tour was to say farewell and put forward his "new" message of international diplomacy, Bush might has well have stayed home. Too little, too late. I think roll on January seems to be the general mood in the UK circles of power.
