Do you think something like this should be considered worthy of national news attention? Cheetahs attack woman at cat sanctuary - CNN.com what about this one: Disabled pregnant woman used as target practice - CNN.com What criteria do you think we should use to qualify something as news worthy? |

That's why I ignore mainstream news. But the news is not to blame. We are. They show us what we ask for. We ask for it in sales of their magazines and papers and response to products shown during their broadcasts. In our obssession with scandal. When we tell them, through our buying habits and emails that we don't want that anymore, and mean it, they will change. Jennifer |

Unfortunately the media is a business and so they push what sells. Who cares about who recieved the Nobel Prize we need to know who made the cut in American Idol. And violence sells. Others misery is anothers entertainment. Plug more violence on the news produces more violence and then equals more news and more money. The days are over when news reporters went on crusades for the truth or real public awarness. Someday maybe the media or someone will not resort to selling out and reporting the real news and the news that really helps us. But some news reporters get paid as good as Hollywood stars so why start reporting the truth.

I'd like to see a news service that focuses on solutions. Reports from communities that dare to try something new and make life better. It would also be interesting with proportional news. Which means 98% of the news would be about everyday life where nothing special happens. |

A few weeks ago, I heard a speech given by Roger Mudd at Washington and Lee University back in the 1970's criticizing broadcast media. Since then I have tried to locate a transcript of the speech, but have been unable to do so. However, the speech can be heard in the broadcast from 19:47 to 21:30. Even though it was written more than 30 years ago, it still definitely applies today, with the addition of ideologically driven cable news channels.
