I'm sure many of you know of this date. There have been scientific theories, prophetic statements and many other things that point to this date as being Doomsday, just a few: 1) Nostradamus predicts that in this year and those surrounding it will bring about great change 2) Einstein predicts that once the honeybees go extinct, the world will only have 4 more years, the honeybees have been decreasing and scientists believe that by next year they will be gone, meaning there will be 4 more years until the year 2012 3) The Mayans predicted that every 13,000 years there is a sacred alignment within Saggitarius, and this is the day that pinpoints that 13,000 year mark 4) Scientists speak of a comet coming to the earth There are also others such as the War on Terror, the constant natural disasters and so on, but there are those that deride this theory, which I side with, personally I find the whole thing to be nonsense: 1) There have been numerous theories such as this over the centuries that have all proved to be false 2) JESUS CHRIST spoke that no man knows of the time of Armageddon, that he himself did not know What are your views on this epic contoversy? Citation please? Social upheavals and plagues have happened many, many times through history. Destructive events are part of nature. For example, periodic forest fires and floods allow for new and more diverse growth in a given topography. Any major social upheaval or plague nowadays would probably make many, many people think that we were seeing the end of the world. But that doesn't mean it would actually be the end of the world. Earth's population is around 6.5 billion right now. A hundred years ago the world population was 1.6 billion. Even a dramatic loss tomorrow of 90% of the world's population would still leave us with 650 million people. This would hardly be the end of the world, in fact, the population would simply be what it was 300 years ago.

I was born in 1981.... The first time I heard that the world was going to its end was 1996... then it got pushed to 1999.... then there was a delay and the expected time of arrival (ETA) was supposed to be year 2000. Then there was another delay, was told that is was coming for sure in 2004. Then more documentaries for the year 2007. The last time I heard was 2010 and then was reading this forum and read that it is due on 2012... ... personally, I'm betting that there will be another delay ... hey, do we have a tracking ID on armageddon/end of the world? somehow it got lost and our delivery hasn't arrive yet. |

The "end of days" could be tomorrow for any one of us. Therefore, you should live your life to the fullest and enjoy every day you do have. 2012 is predicted by the people that have studied anthropology and ancient texts and cultures to be "the end of the world as we know it." Big difference. Jennifer |

what does that say about modern quality of life? i have to admit, life would be a lot more interesting with armageddon. I crave that kind of drama... the world seems so boring and sterile sometimes.

mmm I have mixed views. Like everyone has said there have been many years predicted as end of the world by some, but as someone else has said 2012 is the most backed by actual scientists I have come across. The jury is still out for me, as i'm drawn to that year. I don't buy it as end of times, just as a new chapter. I think we'll see some major disasters leading up to it tho. I had a dream a few years back of a tidal wave hitting brighton in england and making it's way to london ( still waiting for that one to come true If anything though it gives people something to talk about. |

A psychick told me in the past that society cannot ignore the presence of life outside earth (UFO's etc.) after 2012. Not at all such a big step cause lot of people believe/know it already anyway. I believe those doom theories are a lot nonsense. I asked a while ago to another psychic if Holland is getting wet in 2012. Not so, as he said. |

People have been predicting the end of the world for a very long time, and strangely the "end" is usually within a couple years of the present date. It would be pretty cool to see the poles shift or a massive comet snap the Earth in two (for all of the .001 seconds we'd be alive...), but I wouldn't count on it. |

The only thing that is scientifically proven about that date is that for the first time in human's existance, the world will be lined up with the sun AND the black hole in the middle of our galaxy, according to history channel. I wonder what effects this will have?

I still remember back in 1998 and most religious group are running around like headless chickens claiming that satan was coming (1999). You know, flip 999 and you get 666 (also predicted by the well known Nostradamus). Then at the summer of 1999 there was heaps of media coverage about the Mellinium bug of 2000. You remember, that all of our computer timer would reset back to Zero. The planetary alignment would cause gravitation pull and would cause unimaginable disasters, (and this was backed-up by most scientist). The computer world would go in chaos. I still remember my family packing and storing food and water, just to be prepared for of all the hysteria that was happening. Also, they were groups of people like 'Marco Polo'(previous post), who were asking for everyone's money and possession because that's the only way god will save their sins. One guy reached $3million in money and assets and ran away with it. I think what's more legitimate and can be seen evidently was the melting of the polar Ice caps I saw on the news last night. Despite of all the rave above polar ice caps melting in the previous months, they showed a new footage of a 50mile stretch of more breakage of the ice caps. |

The end of the mayan calender on 2012 is also more of an urban myth. From wikipedia: Quote:

But we don't monitor all asteroids either way, so in each moment there an asteroid could hit earth. A polar shift would be a bit messy, but it would hardly be the end of the world. It would erase magnet based harddisks so you should buy a flash laptop if you want to protect your data against that case or burn important data on DVDs.

The mayan calander end is not an urban myth. It obviously doesn't refer to a disaster, but that is the date when it ends. Don't forget that the mayan calendar is so accurate that it predicted solar eclipses to the DAY, thousands of years in advance. The Mayans had a better sense of time than most people do today. The calendar might not actually end. It might just start over with another cycle. 2012 has a lot more substantial evidence and theories to support it than any other doomsday so far. 2000 was just the computer bug and everyone freaking out because it's the year "2000" OooOOoOo. 2012 actually has several prophesies that coincide with it, plus the end of the mayan calendar, and it's debated, but some say it is the beginning of the age of aquarius. Then there's the whole Nibiru thing. If you guys are interested do a torrent search for 2012 History channel. They present a lot of good info. Personally I like the theory of Nibiru (brown dwarf star that has a 3,500 year orbit around the sun) the best so far, although it's probably got the least evidence. It's just interesting.

No offense to Nostradomus fans but have you actually read any of this stuff? It's beyond vague. It's vaguer than vague. He doesn't say a damn thing one could, or should, actually latch into. I think he was schitzophrenic or on drugs. Now bible code stuff is something else altogether.... Jennifer |
