| The Air Car The fiberglass MiniC.A.T. runs on compressed air, and offers zero pollution and very low running costs. Business Week article LINK: The Air Car BBC Video LINK: BBC Media Player Flixxy.com Video LINK: Car Runs On Air From the Business Week article: Tata Motors is India's largest automobile company, with revenues of US$ 5.5 billion in 2005-06. With over 4 million Tata vehicles on Indian roads, it is the leader in commercial vehicles and the second largest in passenger vehicles. It is also the world's fifth largest medium and heavy truck manufacturer and the second largest heavy bus manufacturer. Tata has signed an agreement with MDI for application in India of MDI's engine technology, (underline my edit) and believes the engine is viable – it's press statement described it as "efficient, cost-effective, scalable, and capable of other applications such as power generation". About time. World can't stand much more of the levels of present day Pollution we now have, in my opinion. Oil companies may soon be standing trial for years of their suppression (through the usual means of buying up patents and locking them up and sometimes through outright violence) of technology that in the past have threatened their profits. Oh thank god. Finally some other power other than America, which is chained in oil slavery has enough financial and brainpower to be able to develop an alternative to the current transportation - plus it is green. If this works out, it may be as great as the invention of the steam engine. About time indeed. |

Whether it is green depends on how the energy that creates the compresed air is created. When that energy is generated through burning coal it is anything but green. Unfortunatly most energy is produced through nongreen means. |

Well, actually cars running on petrol or diesel mostly run on compressed air too. I think the ratio petrol-air was 1:10 or somesuch. Fuel is just needed to increase the volume of the air so that the piston would be pushed back. I wonder what do they use instead fuel then. Maybe I should click one of the links in the original post instead being smarty pants. |

Yeah, It'll be interesting to watch how this thing gets played out. I agree, obviously we're in a hostile arena, with Big Oil mucking everything they can get their hands on, in the background. The good news, is Big Oil's little Demon seed will soon be out. But then what are the agenda's of Obama or Hillary concerning Big Oil, is the question ?? --- This is interesting, just found the U.S. Distributor. Zero Pollution Motors - Air Car |

The plot thickens. Hell I may have to buy stock in this damn company. For sure there are more effective methods to compress the air than using oil. Typically these compressors use electricy which you know can come from everything - wind, sun, water, nuclear. Just like driving electric bikes and cars is much cheaper and more evergy effective than driving oil ones, this compressed air car is more energy effective. But it won't have their huge disadvantages - very low speed, long time of charging the batteries and short time to drive. There comes the cost of 1.5 Euros for 200 km. It's similar with the electric bikes, but the technology solves the problems which stopped the electrics to win the market.

One thing I'd like to add that I just realized is, this car actually "eats" pollution. (Trippy concept.) Another solid reason why this technology should (and will be, in my opinion) mainstream. The air intake of the engine is filtered thru charcoal filters, now granted charcoal filters don't take out all pollution. Here's the beauty of it, the output of the engine's air is cleaner then the air that went in ! |
