I'm doing SEO for my site and trying to target specific keywords. How do I figure out how many people search for a specific keyword? For example, I would like to know what percentage of people who search for keyword X find their way to my site rather than my competitor's site. |

You could try Hittail, they offer free and paid services. They also tell you where your traffic is coming from, in addition to keyword knowledge.

For a general keyword research, I heartily recommend Wordtracker (free trial & paid version) hittail.com, as suggested by jamestl2 also seems to be good. Some other alternatives: Google Analytics TraceWatch Both are free. |

I second Google Analytics for getting a snapshot on the activity on your site. As far as FREE goes, it's the best out there. For keyword research, Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery are both great. There are some free tools out there with limited capabilities. Do a google search for 'FREE SEO tools' and you will find some apps. There's also the outdated Overture Keyword Suggestion tool to get some data from... Best of luck!
