Ive never actually hosted my website on a true public web hosting service, I was wondering what is needed to get the job done. The only webhosting service Ive been on is an aquaintance's server, which the server was a piece of crap and I was expected to pay a full months web rent for less than a full months web hosting--which i didnt do so she promptly didnt reload my website. I have a little experience with FTP as far as a private application on which to load my site and modify it to my heart's content...but other than that nothing... could someone whose "been there done that" with webhosting tell me just how it goes from start to finish??? is there alot of crap you hafta wade thru or is it as simple as loading your site and letting them assign you subdomains??? any *positive* help would be appreciated!!! |

The process of public hosting is just contacting the provider, pay for a certain period up front, they send you the FTP login details, you delegate your domain name to their server (they'll give you the address that you delegate to) and then you're all good to go. Just take note of the fine print so you don't get ripped off. Good hosts offer CPanel which is a server control panel. You use it to access databases, add/remove email accounts, get stats, create sub domains etc. etc. |

There are numerous newbie guides online for exactly that purpose, try googling "noob web hosting" or "beginner web hosting guide" - something along those lines and you should find something. Alot of great articles out there, with probably alot more information than what one of us could put into one post. |

ive been there, and done it all. it would take a while to write it all out. as others suggested, there are many good guides out there. you could also consider skipping all the problems with hosting and just get free hosting at somewhere like blogger.com else, you will have to register a domain, find a host, install wordpress probably if your blogging. its not too hard. |

I agree there is so much to explain about websites on a forum that it would take a long time to write it all out. Domain names, website hosting, ftp accounts, the list goes on and on. I can tell you that I have spent a considerable amount of time designing websites for myself and other people. Myself and my partner have decided that a good website would be all about how to get started creating a website for beginners and some good tips for those that might already have a website. So we recently launched a new website that might be of interest to you. We are still working on some of the site including the store which will offer lots more in the near future. It might be worth you looking into, if nothing else you can tell us what you think about our website and if it is any help to you or others so we can provide the best content for our viewers. What kind of site are you running? Chosen hosting depends also on this, because of the services provided by the host company. I am on Bluehost with my blogs, it works very well at a good price. The reason I started there was because they have an automatic install for word press. Like most services today they also have your account organised by a control panel that you log into. Here you can chose between the tools available to work with your site. |

These guys will transfer your sites for free and then you can just add subdomains through the control panel. See the $4.99 per month plan. Multiple Domain Hosting, Reseller Hosting, cPanel & Linux WebHosting Services by CirtexHosting Andrew |
