jamestl2,

Yes, stumble traffic is usually temporary; however, if you have good content, a large percentage of the stumblers are likely to return in the future. It's just a way of advertising.

Liberty Gaming: My Blogging Experience So Far: 10 Things I Learned

It is a little bit unrelated to my blog's main topic, which is game development.

BTW, I do not see much benefit from stumbleupon for some reasons.

Some people did stumble my articles but I have yet to see any great traffic surge on an epic proportion.

I wonder what I am doing wrong. Maybe the blog is too estoric and most people aren't interested in game development and Free software in general? Mine is a niche within a niche, practically.

Maybe the people who stumbled my blog are only interested in personal development and operating a website and not much else.

The initial spike in traffic from Stumbleupon is only temporary, but there is usually a residual "trail" of traffic that is still coming in days or even weeks afterward if enough people Stumble a page.

Here is one of my pages that got reviewed by 40 people on Stumbleupon and as a result has generated almost 10,000 pageviews over the past few days. Feel free to Stumble it yourself while you're there!

I find Stumbleupon has been helpful in getting some extra traffic too. I guess every little bit helps. Here's an article I wrote recently. Please have a look.

Good post. I gave it a Stumble and I also gave some thought to Coach Wooden's concepts - that is quality stuff.

I really enjoyed your article Matt! Stumbled and commented upon.

p.s. I'm with you on the short and sweet. I don't like filler stuff either. Get to the point, cut to the chase - that's my style. Maybe it's not for everybody but it works for me.

What do you guys think of the theme? Casual Science

I know it looks kind of dead, but I want it to be rather simple... however I feel that I should add some kind of image(s) to the top. I would make a logo if I knew what to make.

I haven't used Stumbleupon at all yet. I am finding that there are soooooo many resources out there on the internet; it's hard to keep track of them all! Given all the great feedback here about it, I'm gonna check it out tonight.

There are many and it is a full time job keeping up with them, but the other responder is correct that SU is one of the best right now for getting your page noticed. You could buy PPC (pay per click), but this is free. If you create good content and pages Stumblers will respond kindly to it and push your page along. If not it will not do well. SU is a great way to learn about what users like and don't like as well as showing your site to new visitors.

Doesn't really need a stumble, but we seem to share blogs here a lot anyway.

I also cooked up yet another article for your stumbling addictions: Getting a Job at Casual Science

Ooo, plenty of great articles continuing to come out of this thread! Keep up the good work all!

Here's one I wrote a couple of weeks ago which asks you to challenge your approach to attempting to understand your existence:

Do you really want to know the Truth?

And here's a guest post by Jenny which gives a good non-technical introduction to the science behind change in the realm of personal development:

The Science Behind Change: A Beginner’s Guide

Enjoy!

Oh my gosh, so many good posts ^__^!

I love SU, I've found so many amazing websites and blogs through it. I'm one of those that does bookmark and come back to the stuff I like. I also had a massive surge in traffic due to one of my posts getting stumbled repeatedly.

Anyway, I have another one, which isn't going to be quite so popular But it might be worth a stumble:

Writing a Kick-Ass Sales Pitch

One thing that doesn't make sense to me, is the fact that one of my articles (counting for over half of my current traffic), got nothing but bad reviews (5, total), yet many people are still visiting it?

(I'll admit it is probably not the best article I wrote, but it still confuses me, that if hardly anybody likes it, then why are they still checking it out?)

Here's a roundup of my latest articles for your reading pleasure... stumble if you choose, not if you don't... if you REALLY like them, link to me on your own blog.

I'll break them into two groups... ones that I think have wide appeal, and ones that I think have appeal that is more limited to the type of people who read this sort of forum.

First, the ones that have wide appeal (in my opinion):
The Power Of The Spoken Word - Spoken Words Multiply
8 Ways To Show Your Husband You Love Him

Second, the ones that I think will appeal to the type of people who read this forum:
Which One Runs Your Life - Love Or Fear?
You Are Who You Choose To Be
The Not So Well Traveled Road To Peace

If you disagree with my evaluation, let me know.

Oh, and about the negative reviews... people don't hit your site from SU through clicking based on reviews (generally, at least), they do it from stumbling, ie random pages within a category. What page they go to is determined by people who give you a thumbs up... and people who like it are probably far less likely to leave reviews than people who DO like it.

I found something worth stumbling at each of the sites of those who were so gracious as the stumble my last article. With one exception: Who is Heref? I'm not sure which site to visit for that user -- sorry!
