When I look at my stats a see a temporary astronomical boost is visitors, but if I investigate a bit deeper I find that few to none of those stumblers hang around long enough to have read the content.

It also does not appear to garner many loyal fans. It has resulted in a few. But with a sticking power of about 10-20 per thousand, is it really a viable option for getting yourself known?

Yes it is kinda fun, but not a great marketing strategy.

Topic-specific forums seem to work much better.

Blessings on All Your Endeavors,
Yes i think i agree. What we need is genuine readership. But then it is good for beginners to start 'marketing' their sites somewhere lik SU. If you lay hidden no one will find your site

When do you start getting hits from stumbleupon? As far as I can see I have zero hits from stumbleupon.com

If you want to get traffic from Stumbleupon, you either need to have a high priority in their system (usually by having a lot of subscribers, as far as I can tell) or you need other people to stumble your site as well. Otherwise, you're only likely to get a trickle of stumble traffic, at least in my experience.

No. What I did get was comments from users on my pages that I used to improve my sites, and I got loads of inbound links from people that liked things in my sites. SU has helped my sites get more exposure, inbound links, bookmarks, etc.
If you want to exchange stumbles set up a SU account and then contact me through this MB via PM or my SU account. My SU name is: Sagegoat. I will help get you started by stumbling your site and give you some tips if you need them.
I have not tried SU but how can i do this...

Hey! How come it's so quiet in here? Did the Stumble Upon buzz fade away or what ? I'd like to join in the fun.
Check out my website Self Healing Techniques That Will Really Help and I'll check out as many of your sites as I can.
Good luck with you websites and blogs!

Hey All,

I just joined stumble upon and haven't quite figured it out yet. I'll read through the posts here and check out your sites and add everyone as friends. I should get to it over the next couple of days. Looking forward to getting a flood of traffic, even if it is just temporary. My stumble upon page is below, but it is pretty empty except for a pic.

I've been trying to spread awareness about my website as well lately. I'll be happy to check out everyone's websites and promote the articles that I like.

Check out my site as well. It's in my signature

I saw now that there was no "Share this site" button on the home page (where I'm gonna put it now). Sorry
