I have a new article, which I think could be very useful and hopefully do very well. If you like it, please stumble it... and submit it to any other site you'd like, as well (digg, reddit, de.licio.us, lifehack.org, etc.). Here is the link: 8 Ways To Put Procrastination Off Until Tomorrow |

Hey guys, You've just answered my question! I should be in the intention-manifestation forum! :-) I'm going to look at Stumbleupon now. EFT anyone? And what is it about procrastination? I've just fixed my biggest procrastination problem using EFT (I would, wouldn't I?) and am ready for readership! I'm going to read all the procrastination links you guys have written and see if I can add to the topic. I'm hitting Stumble today and will check your sites. Hopefully you'll check my site and give it the thumbs up! Many thanks and much joy to you Hazel |

Wow, you all write some really good stuff! I'm impressed. Would appreciate it if you would check out two posts and love to hear what you think - good, bad or anything in between. If you like either of them I'd of course also appreciate the stumble. What is a Myth? And my friend Erin wrote, The Catch-22's of Monetizing Your Blog Thanks and keep linking the articles. I enjoy checking them out! |

Okay, so I can see I have at least 4 stumbles on my procrastination article... and a total of 35 page views, at least a few of which are my own. What's going on here? I was not the one to stumble it, so it shouldn't be that (at least I don't think so). Even when pages have been stumbled on my site, lately, it seems like I'm not getting any additional traffic. Lately as in the last few days, maybe a week. Anyone else noticed anything like that? Or know what to do? StumbleUpon provides the vast majority of my traffic, so losing those visitors would really be a serious blow to my site. Any help would be appreciated... and I have another article, if you anyone likes it enough to stumble it and see if it actually brings me traffic. The Difference Between Intelligence And Education |

I did get some viewers from that stumble, Adrienne, so thank you... at least I know my site hasn't been banned or something. I know SU keeps track of how many pages you stumble from a domain, and stops using your stumbles to send traffic if you stumble too many. I think they still show up on your "likes" page, but I'm not actually certain... I haven't checked. I wonder if that will eventually end up rendering this group unable to help each other, as we've given a thumbs up to each other's sites too much? I don't just automatically give a thumbs up, I only do it for articles I find interesting, but I still have a few favorite sites that get them from me fairly often, so eventually they may stop working... either that, or it may actually be that they stop allowing it if a certain percentage of your last # clicks are for that domain, rather than a fixed number forever. I don't know... I just know I get a LOT of my traffic from stumbleupon, and most of my pages are "discovered" by someone from this forum. I'm just now really starting to get some momentum with my site growing, so it would be a dirty rotten shame if it stopped. By the way, do any of you use reddit? And if you have experience with receiving more than a trickle of traffic from it, is there anything in particular that you did? I would really like to start using them, but I'm not really sure how to go about it. Digg is fine, but Digg users aren't, as a general rule, really interested in self-development/relationships/other stuff I write... blah, I know this is really long, but I think I write good content, just don't really know, at this point, how to get it out to more people, especially if StumbleUpon dries up. |

Jason, I won't claim to have any rock-solid answers, but I have been led to believe that with Stumbleupon as well as Digg, the "clout" of the person who first discovers the site has a lot to do with whether or not that post ends up going viral. I think most of us can attest to this as we've all seen stories that weren't all that great, but they still made it HUGE on the social networking sites. Specific to Stumbleupon, I believe you are right about their algorithm taking into account how many pages from any one domain have been stumbled. That is one of the reasons why I only submit vote request for posts that I really think will take off, or that I really want to get a lot of exposure for. |

I think of my articles got stumbled (that I posted here) and I got about 70 hits from that on the same day. But then after that, I think I've gotten a total of one visitor. Does it normally drop off so fast? I'm wondering if people voted it down or something.

| I also only stumble the articles I like from our group here but posting here does provide an effective way to invite me to look at articles. I also stumble 20 to 50 random sites for every Pavilina stumble group site that I stumble. I hope this keeps my credibility at Stumble.

I don't see a problem with our group here. It's completely legit and ethical. I don't see it as promotion for more visitors, but rather a forum/newsletter. I don't think StumbleUpon should mind that much. I enter/host carnivals for promotion, and to give my visitors a heads up on blogs that might interest them. Both work as good sources of promotion, but my intentions are only to share thoughts and philosophies, and to meet new people. I have something in common with everyone in this group. I always look forward to seeing what new articles and ideas you have. This is just a spot where we come together and read each other's articles. As for stumbling. I don't care if anyone gives me a thumbs up, I just post my new articles here for those who enjoy my blog. It's an update that says "hey fans, I'm still working on my site and here's what's new". I give a thumbs up once in a while to you guys, but if I don't then that does not mean I don't like the article. So far, I haven't found many that I didn't enjoy. On that note: Hey fans, I'm still working on my site and here's my newest article: Life is a Pyramid Scheme | Small-town Big-shot |

I post here for the same reason... but I really do, to be honest, care about the traffic. More traffic means that more people are reading my articles, which means that my writing is reaching more people. The traffic matters to me not to show that I'm 'important', nor for money (which at this point is negligible anyway), but because it shows that people like what I write (ie they give me a thumbs up or better yet subscribe). Oh, and this one might be interesting to a lot of you, it's about depression, and my experience/what I learned from being depressed when I was younger. It's also already in my top 5 visited articles (it has approximately 1100 visitors so far), and is still in mid-popularity: A Potentially Fatal Mistake PS - For any of you who care, I'm only 14 subscribers short of my first goal (I'll set another one when I reach it). |

| A Potentially Fatal Mistake has now passed 3500 visitors, making it easily my #1 article... thank you guys, and if any of you haven't read it, and feel like giving it a thumbs up to get it jumpstarted again, I would love it. PS - I'm only 3 subscribers short of my goal now |

I don't view the posts on here as "spam" or "abusing the system" in any way. I'm just suprised that everyone can keep writing quality article after quality article so quickly, and have so much to say This kind of brings me to another question, do you guys bother with giving sites you don't like, thumbs down? I never really could. Last edited by jamestl2; 09-23-2007 at 01:54 AM. |

I've never given anyone a thumbsdown on this site -- I think I once thumbed down a site that was obviously scam, but that was it. Write the Game » Cheating and its influence in gaming, real and imagined Stumble traffic is dropping for me too. |

By the way, my name on SU is jasonivers, if you feel like adding me as a friend. I have read suggestions both ways as far as number of friends having relevance to the amount of traffic you can send, but my basic feeling is: How could it hurt?

I just wanted to share my little personal "success" story. I usually get around 15 visitors a day and the other day I guess Stumbleupon really picked up for my article "4 Ways to Never Get Sick Again." I had just shy of 1500 visitors that day. It dropped off after that, but that was amazing. It definitely motivated me. I made like $.75 that day after having made almost nothing and I received a lot of good comments. I know most people will find that to be not a big deal, but it was important for me. Anyway, thanks for the stumbles! I'll be trying to return the favor as much as possible. |
