I need help with web hosting!!!

After a long personal debate I have decided to change servers due to the unrelaibility and the pissy attitude of the person I was hosting with. I wont go into detail just yet...

My question is...for a site like StevePavlina.com...I need to know how much space, bandwidth, transfer, etc (and all web hosting/server categories and questions) so that I can have atleast an IDEA at how much bandwidth and server etc to think about.

I'm going to use prologic as an example here:

Thing is when I see this I have NO IDEA whatsoever as to what it means. thats where stevepavlina.com comes in... based on the information above, how would it fare against a high traffic website such as this one? I mean how much disk space does stevepavlina.com use? bandwidth? etc?

HELP ME PLEASE i am literate in computers but this makes my eyes glaze over!!!

Steve's probably into the gigabytes per day range, but then, he's got hundreds of thousands of visitors. You won't need to worry about that for a while, yet.
And to be honest, it sounds like the plan you're describing in your post is a little too cheap for what it claims to offer; beware of deals that sound too good to be true. Most if not all webhosting companies oversell to a degree, knowing that most of their customers won't use even a tenth of their allocated resources, which frees the resources up for those who do actually use it. But, some web hosting companies oversell more than others.
(BTW, you've another post asking if you should buy a server yourself - no, no you shouldn't. Not yet, anyway - you'll just be getting yourself right in at the deep end with too little experience of running a website. By all means aim for it eventually, but take your time.)

Have you sat down and really made a plan for your website? That's the only way you'll know for sure what you need now, and when you might need the rest.

Don't buy more webhosting than you need for the forseeable future; you can always switch hosts if you need to.

Also, although some hosting may offer a lot of features, if you're clueless about how to use them they won't do you much good.

I made this mistake awhile back; we'd had some sites with Freewebs (most of them were paid, though so we wouldn't have their ads). Nice, simple, beginner type of setup. Even I could understand it-lol

But they had some growth pains and some downtime, so we moved out clinic site to a "bigger better more features" kind of place, and I'm still struggling with it. No doubt it's good and reliable, but a lot of it's still over my head.

It's a lot to learn in the beginning, isn't it? (but hang in there)

I can reccomend you Giga-Hosting from Germany, good hosting plans, very cheap dedicated servers(i think there are no cheaper dedicated servers on the market than them), low international ping (US under 95ms, EU under 50ms - this does not mean anything but responsitivity of links). I am planning to use them later if my needs don't go over 100Mbit dedicated..

If you really get to have a monster of a site like steve's then you can get cheap dedicated without having pains of transferring to another host.

for example if you have 100k page views a month and each page is 100KB big in total that would calculate to 20GB of total bandwith(data that you transfered to your viewers).

It's some code that will let you add things to your site without doing anything to the HTML of it.

Ex. You log in as an admin under your CMS and click on some button to go to a page where you can post news, and you're able to do that by just typing in the post and not saving any pages, making links, or anything. I think they should do a lot more than that to be classified as a CMS?

You'll probably need PHP and a MySQL database to use one.
(or other languages and databases, but those are the most common)

Wordpress is also a content management system, and a pretty good one for blogs. Many hosting packages have an option to set it up instantly from the control panel.

I have used two different hosts for my sites. I have about a dozen now. I have been using Godaddy with success for a long time for both my registrar (domain name) and hosting. Recently I started using HostGator for my new sites because Godaddy didn't run some scripts well (like PhPbb). Stick with one of those two host and you will be fine. You probably won't need anything bigger than their smallest hosting package. I don't have any site using more than the 4.00~ per month package and I've never ran out of space, bandwidth, or any downtime that I can remember.
