| For several years I have had several ideas for inventive and probably highly lucrative pieces of software which could have a profound impact on the modern world. Unfortunately I have neither programmers nor programming experience sufficient to put some of these ideas into practice. I am currently focusing my efforts into training my skills in organizing groups in order to start a software group. My current major effort is starting a Linux podcast and reaching 1000 subscribers. My question to you, the readers of this post is where can I find people who will be interested in creating software as a hobby with the aim of becoming profitable? |

I doubt you'd convince someone to work for you with just an idea. Quote:
If you can do something for the project(some work, like code, image editing, modelling, ect), then you might be able to form a team. If you decide to do some work, spend a lot of time and effort beginning your project and post what you have on a forum, asking for some more people. I've never done it before though, but I can't think of a better place to get people to work on your project... Go to code forums for coders, image editing forums for artists, ect. For most of the code forums I've been to, there was a section for getting people to work with you. Here's some random code forum I found: CodeGuru Forums - A Developer.com Community for C++, C#, VB, Java and .NET Solutions Scroll down for a section about hiring people: CodeGuru Forums - Open Positions (Jobs) That's probably less common on art forums, but I've never checked... I don't have any experience hiring/working for people but I'm a programmer and read a bit about the topic...

| If you want people to work with you on the idea as a hobby you have to disclose your idea. People have to be drawn to the idea, and that means you have to share the idea.

| I would advise to join a technology entrepreneurs group in your area, for example this one in NYC: NY Tech Meetup (New York, NY) - Meetup.com It's usually filled with just the kind of people you're looking for

| Brutha has it right - if you talk about the actual ideas on some forums you might get a few people interested. Be careful though, because there's lots of people who are drawn to situations like this (working for free to get a later profit) when their skills have little value. Fortunately many people will talk about it all day but then get busy when it's time to actually do something, so they can't do much damage. Almost every programmer would like to build something on the side that gets them some extra income, but the more realistic ones will only put their effort into something they really believe in. This means they have to know the idea and the person well enough to want to do it. |
