Default Thinking on getting a tablet....choices?

So I have been looking at getting a Tablet for some time now. All my friends that have the Ipad or Ipad 2 just rave about how much they like it. I am not convinced on the Ipad route, but rather, have been thinking about other tablets like the Samsung Galaxy or the Toshiba Thrive.

My problem lies in choices. I had the old school white Ipod. Loved it for what it did. Music only. Then one day, the Ipod touch came out. Eventually I bought one of those. Played with it for different apps and what not for a little while, but now it is simply a music device for me. So I regret buying the Ipod Touch. I don't want my tablet choice to be the same thing.

My wife has an Iphone. She likes it, but doesn't use it to its full extent. My 2 best friends both have Iphones that they love. I went the Droid route, and I love my droid phone. They of course ridiculed me for getting a droid. I still like my droid better than the Iphone.

So, am I going to regret getting a tablet? If I get one, what tablet to choose? I am leaning more towards the Android tablets, but still do not know which one to get. Will I just play with this for a while and then set it down after a year?

I read the regret buying an Ipad thread and hope I don't regret getting a tablet myself. Any suggestions from a technology perspective? And please, if you are a complete Apple Fanboy, do not berate me for going the Droid route.

I would go with either an iPad2 or a Netbook running ChromeOS.

The question is what do you want to do with it? If you want to do a lot of typing and editing then neither tablet will work and the Chromebooks are REALLY slick.

If you want the tablet experience - I'm not a fanboy of either Apple or Google - but the iPad2 is best for typing.

I've compared typing speeds and responsiveness between Android & iOS and iOS wins IMO.
