Arrow Reddit is a TOUGH Crowd!

Reddit is a tooouuuugh crowd! Just wanted to get that off my chest They sniff out some "blog spam" and dump on it content unread.

I'm not one for blog spam either, so I get it. It's a fine line to walk though. And Reddit's reception varies drastically by subreddit, which adds to the confusion of best practices. I like the community to some extent, but it's really become more of a message board than a front page of the Internet, and I wonder if most of its readers are aware of the departure from its intention. (even though as an IT I acknowledge that the tech is actually defined by its usage, no matter what the intent.)

Anyway, I'm licking tiny wounds, trying to shed the negativity. As an aside, note that rejection is never personal in "sales," it's a very natural and instinctual reaction by anyone at the beginning of an encounter. Objections offer a wonderful opportunity to overcome and help someone discover something beneficial

Anyone have great reception within Reddit?

The intention of Reddit was never to give marketers a way to promote their websites.

Today being the front page of the internet means being a message board.

But the intention of Reddit WAS to share cool sites. When you use the mobile app, and shake it, it brings you to the next site shared, like StumbleUpon, not a self.reddit.

And message boards are like the back porch of the internet where people hang out and talk about what's going on in the Kitchen...or on the front page. The front page analogy implies discovery, like a newspaper, not editorials.

I was hooked on reddit like crack to a whore and I haven't visited once in months but one thing I noticed is it just isn't worth promoting to that crowd. It would be like trying to sell meat at a vegan convention.

Yeah, I agree. I've actual found a nice home in the r/RealEstate just talking back and forth with self.reddits, but most of the other ones have a bit of a learning curve to understand their community, or don't have much activity. The ones that do (like kittens bouncing off an innertube) don't really appeal to me.

I find that the reddit community...unwelcoming. Maybe it is just me or the community is not my type. I prefer Digg which looks more professional.
