Would like "dummies" how to FTP
 

I made a site using templates (moonfruit and wix) but what I want to do now is use: Word/Publisher/PPoint/WebPlus any of these! to put a site together (inserting pics, typing etc) and then get it published to the web.
I share the ISP with my landlord and I don't want to have to ASK him if I can publish my website :eek: when I have looked up info on FTP it sounded like I had to do it through my ISP and I am trying to find an alternative.
I've heard of Cute FTP and CoffeeCupDirectFTP
don't know much about them - do you?
Alternatively, is there a way I can get hosting for a site made on
Word/Publisher/PPoint/WebPlus? Or notepad even.
I am trying to make a basic but good looking site without code or templates.

P.S. I have a Wordpress site too, but it's for a business (on a tiny budget!) not neccessarily wanting to only have a blog site (although I DO like Wordpress) Will get a domain name soon.

The issue is not learning to FTP. You will need to host your website on a server through a hosting provider. It typically works like this:

1. Register your domain name (URL)
2. Sign up with a hosting provider (GoDaddy, HostGator, etc)
3. FTP your files to the hosting provider

I think you are missing a step or two. Your landlord's ISP is just your mechanism for FTPing your files to the hosting provider. You wouldn't need to ask him for permission if he is letting you access the internet through his ISP.

You can certainly build out your website files using the tools you posted, but you may want to consider just using Wordpress as your content management system instead. It is a lot easier for newbies to stand up a Wordpress website than to code one from scratch unless it is very simplistic.

I recommend before even starting, just sign up for Site Build It! It is exactly what you'll need for a successful Web site. It's best especially if you don't know all the specifics of creating one and marketing it.

I use CoreFTP LE, it's very simple and straightforward and 'drag and drop'.

Check with Moonfruit what they say about FTP - do they allow it or not?

Suggest you check out their support forum as I'm getting the 'vibe' from google results that it's not possible to FTP to moonfruit. I'm also not sure you can 'back up' your site so if you wanted to move off moonfruit you're a bit stuck. I may be wrong, but I seem to recall you having a topic about this a long while back.

If you want a custom site, I think you are going to have to go to an alternative host than moonfruit. I use Bluehost.com

Personally Filezilla is my choice. If you use Hostgator, it will be easier because Hostgator has this method to use Filezilla easier.

Filezilla works great and it should be free (at least it used to be, ).

To the OP,
ftp is similar to using windows explorer. Your files on one side (left), server files on another (right). do a google search for using filezilla.

Filezilla is OK and just go to youtube and you find many many tutorials
