Default Calendaring On Linux

I have seen a variety of very nice PIM ( personal information management ) software on linux.

I would like to use one of these if I could easily sync it with an online service like yahoo or google so I can view as well as update my calendar remotely.

I have been frustrated how the online services do not support linux calendar, PIM apps and I have been frustrated with how these apps do not import information very well.

I am almost ready to just give up the idea of using a desktop PIM app.

Can anyone suggest the best combination of online service ( yahoo, google, icalx, etc ) and off line linux desktop app -- best in terms of being able to sync information?
