Add this URL to your AdBlock Plus filter to get rid of 90% of the buttons: https://monzta.maltekraus.de/adblock_social.txt Sped up my forum experience tons! |

I never noticed the "Be Friendly" thing at all until you just pointed it out. That just goes to show you how little attention is paid (I think by most people) to the side bar. While I won't be adding that to my adblock, I can sympathize with the idea that website developers should be more wise about the marginally-valuable, speed-hindering widgets they spam on their websites. |

I didn't even notice it, and I don't even see the Twitter button. I don't think it's blocked, though it may be (I've got a fair amount of ad blocking and tracking blockers enabled). I see "Be Friendly" and then a link that says "Follow", and that's it. I'll have a look with IE (I normally use Firefox). Okay, in IE I see the Twitter logo, Facebook Like, Google+, and StumbleUpon. Must be the blockers in Firefox. Also interesting that I don't see ANY text links for any of the other stuff. See, this is why I use Firefox. Lots of good add-ons that allow you to filter stuff like that. |

| Adblock Plus is an extension/add-on. You install it through Firefox and it blocks ads. But the way it blocks ads, it can also block web elements like Facebook "Like" icons and such. The URL I gave points to a blocklist that does just that. Once you install Adblock Plus, you can go into its options and add a new blocklist. Add my URL and it'll start blocking these silly social networking widgets which, if you plan on using them, serve to strip out a click or two, when you decide to use them. But every time, whether you use them or not, it has to go load a different web server, sometimes doubling or tripling page load times. As much as I like the PDSP forums, they're not something I'd recommend to my friends, because they aren't the type to participate in forums. So the added time is just a waste.

So that's the culprit! I too have noted about how slow these forums can load oftentimes but never heard anything about what could be done about it. Something else, though: Could these same widgets be the cause of slow page loads getting out of this site?? I swear many times I'm trying to leave these forums, navigate to some other site, and it takes forever to get away.... |
