PHP salaries seem to vary quite widely - there are a lot of entry level positions that use PHP (more than say Java, for example). Entry level in a web design house (as opposed to software shop) is probably around 40k AUD.

I have a friend who is a senior PHP dev for a big company and he's getting 75k+ (AUD) ... this is toward the top of the programming range regardless of language.

Hourly rates vary with experience from about $30 - $75. I charge $50-75 depending on the work.

An outsourced PHP programmer working off-site may start with $10/hour, which is a nice part-time income (better then working in a restaurant, I guess)

It definitely varies from country to country, but I bring home about $26 per hour (net) writing some simple game and social websites.
