Default Wordpress blog not on our homepage

We have an existing WordPress website. The homepage is a static "page" not a blog. We would like to keep our existing static homepage and setup a blog on a different page on the site.

Can anyone suggest how to do this?

I am a PHP programmer, so I can change the theme as necessary.

Just to be clear our homepage (IANA — Example domains) is static.

We want our blog to live here: IANA — Example domains

We'd like to do this with one WordPress installation.

You should be able to do that under settings on the left.

Just install WP in a subdirectory. Works perfectly.

Check out this guide on the Wordpress site... Creating a Static Front Page WordPress Codex

Basically you create two pages under the Pages panel, one for home (which I assume you have already done) and another page for blog/news/whatever without any content. Don't set a custom template on either of those as they both have defaults.

Then, under the Settings > Reading panel: the option 'Front page displays' should be set to 'A static page', and then set the Front Page dropdown to the home page (which you've also probably already done) and the Posts Page dropdown to the blog/news/whatever page you created.

With the theme files, the home page will default to 'home.php' while the posts page will default to either 'index.php' or 'archive.php' depending on which files are included in your theme.
