My Macbook battery physically expanded and cannot be used anymore after 2-3 years. Now I have to get a new one. Has anybody else experienced this?

I don't have a Macbook but batteries are generally short lived; most of them start to fail after about a year. I'd say that 2-3 years is pretty good.

My Macbook is almost 3 years old now, and so far no battery problems. I did have to replace the keyboard after 2 years (luckily I had bought extended warranty).

If you bought the 3 year warranty you should be covered.

Can you still use your computer using a power cable?

I removed the battery and using AC only right now. I can usually get away with just using AC except if I travel and do talks. In about 80% of my talks, there is usually a way to hook up AC to my Macbook but there have been some where I needed to rely on the battery.

Apple stores want $100 for a replacement. I know that Ebay has less expensive options.

Mine expanded too. I have been too cheap to replace it thus far but it is frustrating every time the power goes out. I guess I need to break down and just buy a new one. Apparently it happens a lot according the guys at the Genius Bar.
