Does anyone know of a way to change Google Chrome's text-pasting behavior in its address field (URL bar)?? The convention for double-clicking on a website name is to have the cursor select only the characters between periods and dashes, such that clicking on "mysite" in "www.mysite.com" yields only "mysite" to the clipboard and pasting into an existing web address, say "www.example.com" by clicking on "example" results in "www.mysite.com" in the address field. I have a whole list of websites to go through and instead of typing each one out I used to copy-and-paste by double-clicking as described, but now with the new Firefox and the new Adobe Flash I had to switch to Chrome to avoid constant crashing (yes, I know the new plugin-container.exe was supposed to have solved this problem) but now I can't just copy a site name as I used to because double-clicking a web address in Chrome means selecting the period (dot) before the "com"! |

You should learn better shortcuts. You are frustrated because google chrome does not select everything in the address bar from double clicking, right? Just press (on your keyboard) CTRL + L to select everything in your address bar, then press CTRL + V to paste. Better yet, if you prefer to use one finger, F6 selects everything in the address bar as well. |

Just use the bookmarks bar. If you shorten or abbreviate the site names you can fit a lot of them up there. Or if you can remember the icons for them just have the icons and no text, then you could probably fit about 50+ of them. All others can be organized in folders in the "Other bookmarks" section. That's what works for me anyway...

Thanks for the insights, everyone! I'll check out speed dial in opera, desert rat. Artelus and NoJobRob, that's not what I needed but it's all handy to know anyway! I don't know why, cacheborn, but my Chrome really does select the period before the "com" -- and, for that matter, the forward slash before the "whatever.html" when double-clicked!! |
