I added new articles to my website. These articles were written over the course of 3 days. Some of the articles were pre-existing, but most of them were written from scratch without using references. So really, this was an experiment in creative writing. I do understand that they may need editing but overall I think I did a pretty good job, given that over a period of time I can always come back to them and improve the content. Maybe reword certain sentences, maybe add more actual information, pictures and other kinds of content. Overall, I think I did pretty good considering the time I had. I tried to touch upon some of the most obvious subjects with regard to making websites, building traffic, etc. Just my points of view on the dirt old topics, based on my experience and observations. Some articles provide very specific information, other articles contain mistakes (but it is a good thing I can spot them and avoid them in my future writing, that was kind of one of the points of this experiment). It took me 2 hours just to put the new articles on my site using MySQL Administrator. All articles have also been submitted to Google Webmaster Tools using a sitemap. I also submitted each article to Digg, to make sure they get indexed sooner. One of the interesting things about this experiment is what will be the impact on the web traffic? The traffic for this website has already been growing slowly with just the old articles. If adding this number of new articles will impact traffic at all, it would be a starting point to figuring out the averages, for example... how many articles will produce a certain amount of traffic. Maybe that will motivate me to do a second round of this. An Introduction to Making Websites My Own Experience with Making Websites (Primary purpose, Navigation, Tips) What Is a Website made Of? Did I break my own rule? So, the results. . . I am seeing some traffic, but not too much, and I suppose it's a matter of time someone will link at least to some of the articles and traffic will increase. What I notice is that even weak content gets traffic from Google. In my observations, they sort of give all content a chance. . . a trial period, and if during this time someone links back to a page, that means it is worthy. . . so they give it a longer trial period. I think what they might actually be doing is split the % of times your page is shown in search results at all based on the number of links pointing back to it. Think about two well-written pages on the same subject A (1 backlink) and B (100 backlinks). Page A will still be shown in results, just 100 times less than page B. Giving it a fair chance. I assume at the beginning they give something like 0.1% of weight to a page, to make sure that it appears in results at least some of the time. This may explain why the search results actually change back and forth often. They might have a secondary server which lets new content be discovered, and the "final version" which they show to everyone most of the time. One might argue that the search results change because they are personalized, but that's not what I mean. In many occasions I could perceive that the search results were different for me, and I noticed that when they changed, they changed between two orders that were very alike, so it wasn't all really random each time. Has anyone noticed this? For example in one version of search results, I saw a list of what I'd refer to "normal" results - set A. Other times searching for the same keywords, set B was returned, that was similar to set A, but not exactly the same. Set A and set B would flicker back and forth between each other, lets say, if I did my search on the same keyword every 12 hours. Sometimes I would see set A, others set B. But both sets were alike, set A was very similar to what set A looked like, the same goes to set B. I am sure it serves some function. - - - Actually with the original post of this thread I also wanted people to actually read my content as I think that this is the best writing I have ever done for a website. People sometimes will criticize you for plagiarizing, copying from other sites, creating duplicate content. . . etc, even when its not, but at least so that type of thing usually motivates me to think about, well... what will it mean to create a completely original writing? My conclusion was that writing was a form of self expression, somewhat like an art. You express your knowledge and experience in a way that makes sense to you, and try to engage readers and have them learn something, or put them in your shoes, etc. I feel like I am a long way from just ensuring that there are keywords in my articles just to be picked up by Google.
