Roaring Springs will become famous soon enough
Default What is it with my iPod and how do I fix it?

This is a silver iPod Classic. I actually had this problem a couple of years ago but I couldn't get it replaced and then I put it away for a while and forgot all about it. I'm working with it again now being that I have a new computer.

The battery was completely drained. I plugged it into my computer. It will charge. Then I got the Apple screen gray background and stuff. I forget what I did but I got the iPod to go back to as though it had just came from the store.

When I hold down the center and "Menu" buttons it shuts off but then I get the gray button and it stays there, and then seconds later, it goes black. But then when I press the center button, it works as though I had just turned it on for the first time, telling me to select the language.

When I go to Extras and then to Games for the Klondike game, it goes to black, then the Apple screen and then to the language setting.

When I plug it into the computer, these are the messages I get, in order.

How do I fix this? So I can load songs onto it and other stuff like that?

It sounds like your hard drive is fried. It happened to me with my old iPod mini. Apple has a program where you send in your old busted one and they send you a refurbished one at a reduced cost. I looked into it but just made more sense to upgrade and buy a new one.

I believe the new ones have a solid state drive, no moving parts, so in theory should be less likely to burn out. Not positive on that point though.
