Hi I don't normally ask for help, but a situation has arisen on Facebook, and I would like to know if anyone has experienced anything similar. I have received on two occasions, a lot of friend suggestions from my friend – the last time, it was 74 suggestions, in the space of an hour or so. I also received a lot of friend requests from his friends on the same day. I thought he was just being funny, but he adamantly denies sending me any suggestions – and instead, accuses me of pinching his friends, publicly on my wall. I don't know whether to believe him. There are at least three possibilities (a) Although he has mental problems, I try to see the 'real' side in him, and have known him for a few years – but some friends tell me that he is a trouble maker. So he might have done this deliberately – but he has continually adamantly denied it. (b) It did occur to me that he might be suffering from multiple personality disorder, where he doesn't remember what he has done (c) The other possibility, is that it is a glitch in facebook or some sort of virus – but I haven't found any mention of any such thing on the internet, except a fake virus alert I wonder if anyone has any experience of this happening - as it is quite difficult to ascertain the truth |

I usually ignore friend suggests on Facebook. I would much rather wait for the real friend request add. I know that Facebook doesn't like it when you add to many new friends at a time but when it comes to accepting friends, that's okay.

I haven't had that happen to me either. What I suggest is sending him a Facebook message that you are going to "unfriend him" temporarily to see if that stops the problem of friend suggestions. You have a great excuse to unfriend the guy so he shouldn't take it personally. If you want to friend him again later, you could. But would you really want to?

However, his friend suggestions come in big bursts, and not all the time. Also, if he wasn't a friend, it wouldn't be possible to get any friend suggestions from him anyway - So it wouldn't be any test. After us both making accusations, we both read the item which I linked to, and both of us realised that facebook seemed to have made fools of both of us! In the link, there is also an example of a friendship which was compromised by this happening. | |
