Alienware from DELL is awesome. The laptops are mind blowing. They are exclusively for gaming. Alienware - Custom Gaming Computers - PC Gaming At Its Best I was a game freak when I was a kid. Now I am 25 and play games no more. But I think I will get into it again. I am going to explore the new games. I am a software developer now and I also need high end systems to run the kind of programs I use. They take a lots of system resource and a system like alienware would be really good for running heavy apps. I am planning to buy the 11x alienware with the optional i7 processor. Alienware Laptops - Custom Gaming Laptops and Notebooks. I need your suggestions. Is it worth the money? It comes around $1700 in my country. |

Since you are a software developer I think you should be able to build your own system. I would recommend doing that instead, since you can easily save as much as $300 for the same specs and hardware. Just buy the parts (case, cpu, gpu, ram, fans) from a local store, newegg.com, or ebay, find great deals, and assemble it yourself. |

He's talking about laptops... not as simple as building a desktop. I was considering getting an alienware but after my research on actual hardware I ended up with a macbook pro 15 inch. I'm a hybrid user (I use windows often, though I find myself in Mac OS more, windows feels clunky, though a bit faster). The hardware itself is pretty awesome, very sturdy and a great screen (important since I use photoshop often). Most other laptops dont compare at the end of the day. I can play a lot of games at pretty high settings too, thanks to the nvidia 330GT and i5 processor. The price can seem a bit high but in terms of "investment" I'd say its a great value in actuality. I got mine used on craigslist for $600 less than the retail price. |

Oh, oops. I only read the first link and saw "Custom Gaming Computers" and thought of desktops. Imo, if you want the best deal for your laptop, you should look to getting a clevo: Clevo Guide v3.0 - FAQ and Reseller Info ****READ BEFORE POSTING**** |

Alienwares are severely overpriced and under-perform. For identical or better specs you could be getting something MUCH better. The asus g73x series comes to mind. It's fitted with a 5870 radeon. and costs about 1100. The design is sleek relatively cool. If you're looking to save money stay away from Alienware and do research. You'll end up paying $500 more than you should by not doing homework. Alienwares are like the BMW's of the world where people who buy into brand name cars without doing the research. The only good thing is that their return policy is pretty good. I'm not positive but I've read that their warranty policy covers accidents so even if you drop it in a tub you can get it refurbed or a new one. You have to check on that though. But then again, I know Asus does that also. Check out MSI and Asus gaming laptops. If you get into software engineering you don't need gaming graphics persey because those are CPU heavy. But even an i5 is more than adequate. Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras and More! is your friend. Learn to play nice with him and he'll save you lots of money. Also read the reviews. The entire newegg community are experts for the most part. |

Alienwares are almost similar to Macbooks in a way that they are advertised to be high-spec, but actually cost more for their hardware than most PCs. You're just paying for the exterior design and the hype, and not to mention the "novelty" of owning one. A flashy Alienware is easily a flashing target for thieves. Not a good idea if you're using the laptop for business. |

I know theyre not cheap, but I don't feel they're far overpriced either, at least compared to the market and competition. The OS is nice too, once you get used to multitouch trackpad, expose, spaces... its a horrible experience using other laptop trackpads. I'm not a mac fanatic but I give credit where it's due. | |
