As I mentioned in the "I created a Website Builder" thread... well, I created a website builder. I was able to create these sites with it: Totello.com LearnComputerLanguage.com PlayingStarcraft.com If you would like to mess around with it here is how: 1. go to On Top Marketing Solutions - Website Builder 2. Click on "Register Account" button 3. Complete the registration form and domain name look up 4. Enter your username and password and click Create Account At this point you will be automatically logged in. A. You will need to "lock" a domain name. This won't register it, but will make it available for preview. I would be very interested in seeing what type of sites everyone can make with this... as limited as it is right now. Post links to your creation in this thread! (Click on the "preview website" button, and copy and paste the URL from your browser) Here is the format of the preview link: www . ontopms . com/preview/www.totello.com Where totello.com is the domain name you've chosen Be creative! It would be nice to make it free, but someone has to pay for hosting and domain names. The idea is to provide a website builder as a paid service. However, it would also include free hosting and free domain name. There are many people out there who have no idea what hosting or domain names are or how to get them, so the builder would simplify the process. Update: Just checked Weebly They have a good site, but my vision of what a website builder should be is different. In particular I am not very interested in pre-designed templates that can be applied to the site. In my vision... that's a good recipe for creating a bunch of websites that are going to look alike. You can have 1,000 different templates. But most users will use the same templates over and over. And there are just so many people out there, that even with that number of templates you are going to have identical sites being built if they all choose the same templates. This also creates the problem for people who want to be completely original. Web design should be about diversity of what you are creating. It's kind of like art. So I hope to make a tool that makes it easy to be diverse without all the overwhelming options. You just look at the site and shape it into what you think it should be like. Instead of templates, my idea is to identify the most important elements of any website and provide intuitive tools for customizing each one, for example: the header, the body, footer, and the side bar. In current version it is possible to drag sliders around and adjust the size/width of these elements visually. . . essentially shaping the site into the look you want, kind of like sculpting it.
