Default slicing web layouts in photoshop...

There is something really annoying I'm trying to get past and I swear there has to be a simple solution...

When I slice the layout, the elements that arent part of the graphic areas (empty space basically) become gifs automatically. I don't want these areas to be gifs, I just want it to be empty space in the html. When you optimize the layout for export you can literally tell photoshop to not treat these areas as images... but then when it exports they are still images! T_T

The best I can come up with is deleting all the gifs in an html editor, but I can forsee that becoming a mess and waste of time... I've looked around google and can't find anything on it... help?

Makes sure you shift select your slices that you want in the "save for the web" window.

I tried it, (shift clicked, everything I wanted was properly selected), and it still exported the other areas as gifs. The only solution I have for now is just selecting the unwanted areas in dreamweaver and deleting them. :/
