Blech

I only knew because it sent spam to my direct personal e-mail account; I just use gmail as a backup and for website mail, Facebook and so on.

I changed my password & security question, and deleted all the contacts and everything else in there. Should I do anything else?

I got a notice yesterday that there was suspicious activity linked with my gmail account. It had tried to send out spam but got stopped. It showed me the failed attempts, not the message but who they tried to send it to. I only use g mail as a secondary e-mail so I deleted my g-mail account and signed up for a new one with a different service.

Sounds like your email may have got hijacked. Change your password and do a virus scan of your machine.

I've never had that happen with my Gmail. I use Gmail for emailing friends and family, and hotmail to order stuff online, sign up at websites, etc. All my spam goes to hotmail, and with the new one click blocking button, I not only delete everything in my junk folder, I also block the address. True, they use many different addresses, but if blocking them is just as easy as deleting them, I will block them.
