Is it worth it? I am not rich. I mostly want this for the internet aspect. I also want it for listening to podcasts. Music is not a motivator. I would probably end up using it for music just because I could, but I find music such a distraction and never miss it when it's not there unless I'm just sitting at home on my laptop. One problem is I might actually not find the podcasts thing that helpful. I have in mind doing something like what Steve did in college - just constantly listening to motivational material. But a lot of that costs money, and I can't just be endlessly shelling that stuff out in mere hopes of success. It also is time-consuming in itself to find good podcasts. Is it worth it for the internet aspect? I found that my nook had internet access, but that it was pretty worthless. The thing goes waaayyy too slowly, and half the keys aren't even on it, not to mention troubles getting a connection. How does I-Pod Touch internet compare to that of a laptop? |

I frequently use my iPod Touch for the Internet, and it works well. Pages don't load quite as fast as a laptop, due to the limited processing power, but it's almost as fast. All of the pages look nicely and display normally in the iPod browser, which uses the same engine as the Mac's Safari browser. If your main intent is to just browse the web, you may be better off buying a $250 Netbook instead of the iPod. It will be a better web browsing experience, though the Netbook won't fit in your pocket... |

One thing I should say is if you feel a strong pull to get one, get one. I found many extra use for my iPod after I got one that I never imagined before I got it - such as listening to audiobooks, and meditation thingies. Same for my iPhone, found a bunch of usage for it I didn't expect once I got it. Honor your pulls |

I love my Ipod touch!!! Highly recommend it. Most places have wifi so I don't find that aspect inconvenient. I got it mainly for music and internet and I'm very happy with it. Plus there are all kinds of sweet apps... Get a refurbished one online. I saved like $60. |

Absolutely. In fact, why are you still sitting here reading this? Drop everything and go buy one right now. Seriously, I love mine, but it's a gateway device. I did not expect that once I got it I would want a smartphone/iphone like it...and then an iPad. If I were you, I'd just go ahead and skip the iTouch and get an iPhone. Same thing, except an iPhone is also a phone and has 3Gs (or is it 4Gs now? So many cool things you can do. Audio books, podcasts, internet, games out the ying yang, movies, music, kindle app for reading books (<--worth every penny just for that...trust me, the reading experience on an iTouch is very satisfying), apps (I have apps that I use to balance my checkbook, read pdfs, track goals, etc.). And there's so much more. It's literally a computer that you carry in your pocket. And the typing experience on it is kinda slow at first, but now that I've had it for a while I can whiz through it almost as fast as I can type). |

My opinion is this, I have a 64gig ipod touch. Like others have said it's really nice, I use it for things like medication reminder, yahoo IM, internet radio (when I'm in the garage or on the crapper), but for web surfing eh, it's ok if the developer used a mobile design for the site then it's great. Don't get me wrong it still works but is small on a normal site (but you can enlarge the text, but it's not ideal). Portability is great though. You might consider the ipad instead, it's much better for web surfing... |

| Exactly. How much is it a month? And then the device itself costs $100-300 more. As long as I can use it to download podcasts and such, and get online in a lot of places where carrying a laptop is inconvenient... I need to save money, but this could make a big difference in my life, so I think it could be worth it. Thanks for the advice, everyone! I'm happy to hear that many of you love it. I am strongly leaning toward getting one now. What I really want is a pocket-sized device because I run/bike around the city a lot and don't want to be carrying something bulky, even if it's hand-held. Quote:

If you are going to be in places where wi-fi is readily available then I would go ahead and buy the ipod Touch. I use mine mostly for reading ebooks and playing games whilst travelling. I recently decided to splurge and order an iphone because I really wanted 3G (I am prohibited from setting up wi-fi in my university halls) and I rarely go into cafes or public places where free wifi is available. Plus, my current phone is about 7 years old and struggles to perform even basic functions. The iphone however is incredibly expensive if you just want to be able to read a few documents and the ipad and ipod touch can function perfectly fine for that purpose. The only question is whether you want portability of the touch or the nicer reading experience (larger screen) of the ipad. |

I love mine for music. It has the Genius playlists, kind of like Pandora, but with your own music. I have so much music that I forget whet I have, and have rediscovered (and discovered) some awesome songs. All of this in addition to the web browsing. Get one!

That's for the "extra" data plans. The $60 per month would be the cell phone plan that goes with it. Part of my statement was to the affect that an iphone would essentially be 15 more dollars per month IF you've already got a cell phone. If you don't already have a cell phone, then my argument becomes: "What? Have you been living in a cave???"

I'm really only bringing all of this up because I bought an iTouch and within a month, I knew I wanted an iphone because I was carrying both the iTouch and my cell phone in my pocket (which was clunky). I still don't have an iPhone, but I have a smartphone that resembles the iPhone (and it's not the same but I'm kinda stubborn about AT&T and Verizon isn't in our area yet). Just trying to save you a few dubloons. The iTouch is fantastic, though. But I must warn you, it's a gateway device. It's kind of like the marijuana of touch devices.

I love my iPod Touch. I use it all the time for all kinds of things. I also have a cell phone... I'm pretty happy with this setup. Carrying two devices to save money is not that big of a deal. But, if my cell phone contract was coming to an end and I didn't already have an iPod Touch, I'd probably just buy an Android smart phone. |

I bought a Zune touch, which is similar, and to be honest I hated it. Absolutely hated it. I hate touch screens, especially when they are in my pocket. I sold it on eBay and bought a Zen 16GB for $53.00 on eBay. I've heard the iPod touch has a camera, though. That's pretty cool, and a video camera too. But, I'm no photographer. I think you're better off buying another brand's mp3 player, even if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of an Apple product. Then again, I don't own any Apple products. I find most of them to be not only more expensive, but a little too strange for my taste. I'll stick with my PC and my PC-related gadgets until I feel the need to convert over to Apple. |

Hi Conchette, I agree with everything James81 says. The iPod Touch is a gateway device, but that's okay. You will use it to learn the awesomeness of apps and being connected on the go. No need to get the latest model, go for an older model to save money. When you find yourself with more disposable income, you will be able to sell your iPod Touch and move up to an iPad or an iPhone. I actually think iPads are cheaper than iPhones in the long because you aren't wedded to a 3G data plan. So get your iPod Touch, revel in the apps, your music, the Genius playlists, podcasts, audiobooks and any other goodies you discover. You will be delighted with your purchase for a long time. |

So I finally bought the Touch. My mom didn't want to upgrade my phone, and I'm on her plan... I bought it before my computer and then found out I need a computer in order to get started. Lame! Grr! |
