Default keywords

I have a question, is keyword research really that important? It seems so time consuming-I signed up for a free trial on wordtracker.com and it seems like the time I spend looking at keywords could be spent writing an article. I was thinking that maybe while I write I could just think of keywords in my head that people would search for. Is it really necessary? I mean, could I just rely on promotion and marketing and getting links?

IMO, keyword research is really important.

It is true that it may be time consuming, but it will be worth it.

If you only rely on promotion and getting links, what if 3 months later you find out the keywords you're targeting are not profitable?

Moreover, link building is much more time consuming than keyword research.

Ok I get that it's important, but wordtracker is $69 a month. Is there anything out there comparible that's free?

Default Google Adwords Keyword Tool

I only use Google Adwords Keyword Tool to find keywords (which is worth the time) and Market Samurai to keep track of my rankings. But you can use Google Webmaster Tools to give you a basic idea of what are the most common keywords Google found when crawling your site.

Hope this helps. I just don't see a need to pay that high of a monthly fee. But I do agree its important to research keywords.

Yeah, don't pay for Wordtracker. Use something like Market Samurai or the free stuff.

The main thing with keyword research is to help you figure out what people are searching for in relation to your niche. This shouldn't take you a whole lot of time and it gives you ideas on what to write about.

I went to check out Market Samurai and although it looks great, it's not really free. There is a 7 day trial. The good thing is that it's a 1 time fee. I am trying out google adwords, it looks pretty good although I just started.

You can get a ton of keywords for your site, enough to keep you busy for a long time, just by using their 7-day trial. It's good stuff!
