Default Why did Google randomly bury my site?

My website, which used to have many articles in the top search results is now completely buried on google's search results. What causes this? My website has stayed the same, and the 3+ year old articles definitely haven't changed.

Did you do anything that could be interpreted to be a black hat technique?
Buying links?

Well Google recently did a giant change in their algorithm apparently. If your content sucked then that's why it got buried. If it was great content, then you were one of the casualties of war on the content spammers.

Google's algorithm change was to increase relevant search results and decrease duplicate and spam content. Some legitimate websites were helped by the change and other legitamate websites went down in search results. I think eventually your site will come back.

Did you recently move from a shared domain to a custom one? That often causes this issue (though only with Google, not any other search engine).

You should check if your site has been hacked, just in case. Sometimes people hack sites, and use them to place spam pages on (basically keyword stuffing and linking). If Google finds this, they may downrank you severely, or simply remove your site from their searches all together. You could try searching for 'site:yourdomain.com' on google, which should display all results for your domain. You could also try to recursievely download all the content on your site (using wget or TeleportPro or other crawler like bot), and see if it all looks familiar.

Whats interesting is I've noticed other highly ranked websites (that I competed with in certain search results) are also somewhat buried on the google search results too. This really is demoralizing.
