Default What percent of websites are hosted on US servers?

Am just wondering - what percentage of internet websites are actually hosted on servers located in the US?
Educated guesstimates anyone?

Is there an easy way of finding domain resellers with non-US-based servers?

Just thinking about the impact of the US 'kill switch' bill!

Worrying about US kill switch legislation often misses the point. We live in a world where ISP already censor some web servers by consensus.
At least in the beginning the US kill switch legislation will only codify a practice that already exists.

Codifying the practice might make it easier to censor a website like Wikileaks but it's no black and white issue.

As a German I host my domains with a German companies like Premium Hosting. Premium Service. - domainFACTORY. As a result I'm not subject to any foreign jurisdiction. It's also a big company where I don't have to worry that it will suddenly go out of business.
I'm not hosting anything that's really controversial and where I need to worry about censorship of the website.

If you want to maximize your resilience than I would host with Iceland or Swiss servers.
The swiss servers have the advantage that their traffic doesn't go through UKUSA territory and is therefore not automatically monitored by the US.
As Iceland progresses with IMMI Icelandic server will be harder to censor via libel law than Swiss servers.

Depending on what I value more I would choose either of those countries.

Websites such as Google have servers all over the world and users get usually served by a server that near them.

If you want to have a better feeling of where Server do stand there an Chrome Extension called Chrome Flags which displays the flag of the country you are connecting to.
There probably similar extensions for Firefox.

ICELAND TO BECOME INTERNATIONAL TRANSPARENCY HAVEN

Icelandic Modern Media Initiative

and this hosting company:

OrangeWebsite - Green Web Hosting - Save enviroment by choosing us

650isk per month is about $5.5 per month.
