I've had a problem accessing facebook (including mobile facebook) for a while on one of my computers (Windows XP). This predates the shut down in Egypt when I was jumping from proxy to proxy for a few days to get access.

I discover to my surprise that I can still access it fine via a proxy but not with no proxy NOTE this is JUST on one computer.

Using the other computer (Windows 7 Starter) and the exact same USB dongle (which is my broadband) no problem.

Things I have tried on the computer with the problem:

Different browsers: Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera - no joy
Clearing cache, history, stored passwords, cookies
Shut down restart
Shut down cold reboot
Non-mobile and mobile versions of the site.

Have double and treble-checked no 'proxies' accidentally set in the Firefox or Internet Explorer setups.
Have checked site not accidentally blocked in either.

Am at a loss! Why will it load fine using a proxy, and also on a different 'puter using the exact same connection, but not this one?

Any further suggestions gratefully received (please note what I have already tried before resuggesting it!!!)

Ok it's stopped working on the proxy now.
Any clues anyone? Have tried the mighty google but all the things they suggest I have tried.

What happens when you try? Error messages, partly loading, not loading at all?

Not loading at all - hangs forever in 'loading' state but never does.
No error messages.
