I mostly use chrome now, but when I was on an 8 year old IBM Thinkpad I found Sea Monkey (related to FireFox) loaded pages faster than my new desktop could load sites via FireFox. It didn't load everything perfectly, but in most cases it did fine, and made an 8 year old computer run better than when it was new (along with the help of Puppy Linux). The SeaMonkey® Project |

| SRWare Iron - The Browser of the Future Based on Google Chromes "Chromium" -engine, but unlike Google's browser, it doesn't sent back information to Google about your browser usage. Also in a comparison I made, 5 tabs open, Firefox took 300MB memory, Chrome took 120MB, and Iron only 20MB. It's also one of the fastests browsers and supports the same themes and plugins as Chrome. Tested Opera11 also.. god it was sluggish. |

For everyday quick usage where you want a pretty fast opening and surfing turnaround then you could do worse than Chrome. Personally I use FF for browsing and only use Chrome for cross-browser testing on any new web pages, along with IE. When I had my old junked XP laptop, I used Chrome for quick-open blasts of browsing where it opened far quicker than even my beloved FF. Even though my hardware was pretty old, it was still impressive. Just feels a little stripped down for my liking but if you're just after speed and basic browsing then it's probably even more up your street. I note the relative dearth of people recommending any build of IE in answer to this question and chuckle heartily! Even IE9 is slooooow on my top-spec laptop. C'mon Billy G - sort it out! |

Just got round to downloading and installing the SRWare Iron. Nice Opens two sites I've been unable to open on this 'puter using Firefox or IE!! (And yes, I did clear caches, check blocks all that sort of stuff to no avail!) and also fully loads a lengthy thread on another forum I go on that I have been unable to fully load on FF! |
